Leave Windows Live Hotmail and Revert Back to Classic MSN Hotmail
Windows Live Hotmail which was briefly named as Windows Live Mail during beta, is officially launched as final version. Windows Live Hotmail is the new web-based email service from Microsoft which is intended as the replacement for the classic old MSN Hotmail existed since 1995. Major enhancements in Windows Live Hotmail are extensive use of AJAX for interactive feature and free 2GB email storage space. From 7 May 2007, all new Hotmail accounts will be created as Windows Live Hotmail accounts, while existing MSN Hotmail users can update to Windows Live Hotmail by clicking on the “Join Windows Live Hotmail” button below the Hotmail logo, with beta users automatically switched.
However, the user interface of Windows Live Hotmail is not as intuitive, as responsive or as attractive as you would have expected. After switching over, you may regret your choice and would like to revert back to the old classic Hotmail interface. Luckily, Microsoft still provide a way to switch back to MSN Hotmail, with the downside that you may lose your free 2GB space. Here’s how to do it.
There’re 2 version of Windows Live Hotmail – full version with all the AJAX capabilities such as address auto-complete, reading pane, color schemes and keyboard shortcuts, and classic version which pretty much resemble the user interface the original Hotmail. In fact, classic Windows Live Hotmail interface version is recommended for users with slow internet connection or a monitor that is under 1024 x 768 pixels. If you want to keep the 2GB free space, this is the best option to opt for.
Switch to classic version of Windows Live Hotmail

Simply look for “Switch to classic” link located in the bottom left corner, and you’re done.
Switch back to original MSN Hotmail
If you want to revert back to MSN Hotmail, and don’t care whether you have the free 2GB mail space, click on Options on the top right corner (in full version, a pull down menu will be shown, where you should further click on More Options). You will see the following message.
For full version:
You’re using the full version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Click here to try the classic version, which is good for slow connections.
You can also Switch to MSN Hotmail.
For classic version:
You are using the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Have a fast connection and want more features? Try the full version to see message previews in your inbox. (It’s free, too.)
You can also Switch to MSN Hotmail.
So to revert, click on “Switch to MSN Hotmail”. In the Switch Back page, confirm by clicking on Switch back button. And you’re back to original MSN Hotmail.

Do not use Windows Live for getting your Hotmail at work or home. It downloads all of your emails to your computer for all the world to see without you actually signing in. And Microsoft says security is better. How? At least with Outlook Express and manage identities no one else could see my emails. You can open your windows live just by a couple of clicks on the cancel button and it opens up all received emails.

I need to get to my e-mail without giving all my information to another profile. THIS MORNING I could just sign in with my e-mail and password. WHAT HAPPENED?! I am definately switching to gmail. Why would they do this forceful action?! And yesterday they sent me a thank you for being with hotmail over 10 years e-mail!!!! How could they do this?

There used to be a column in which message size was displayed – it seems to have vanished this week, at the same time that all the extra crap started showing up upon signing in. Does anyone know if there’s any way to get the message size to be displayed again (I’m talking about the emails themselves, not attachment size)??

It seems that Microsoft is trying to compete with Facebook. Hotmail used to be a quiet sanctum of anonymity- a home base, of sorts. Now, they have it in mind to coax you into creating a “profile” and posting a portrait of yourself. I doubt they’re going back. When websites change like this, they might allow you to switch back for a while. But, sooner or later, that option compromises their memory load. I think it’s already gone. I honestly don’t know what they are thinking. Their setup is crude and certainly won’t attract anyone looking for social networking. The simple “inbox/outbox” routine (with a no-flair/business-like screen name functionality) has always been hotmail’s main draw. When users see that’s being infringed upon, they are likely to seek a different resource. I’m not even going to talk about the ad-space they’re selling out and the likely cookies being drawn in.

My old screen is too small for the new Hotmail that just popped today, 2/19/09 at 4:40pm, a few minutes ago: there is too much overprinted on a too narrow screen, no sliding bar at the bottom and it is completely UNUSABLE. Please help.

I established hotmail accounts but am unable to use them. I thought maybe windows live was the answer. Big mistake. I can now get into my account but cannot open an email. I also am not able to change back to regular hotmail as I cannot access the Options pulldown. In the process of establishing a Windows Live account, I ended up with a @live.com email address. I can access that account but also can’t read an email on that account nor can I access the Options pulldown from that account. How could Microsoft possibly let such terrible bugs get through a new release.
Any help would be appreciated.
January 12th, 2009 22:29
This doesn’t work for me. I don’t see any link showing where I can switch to classic mode. I cannot find the text “You’re using the full version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Click here to try the classic version, which is good for slow connections.” anywhere, on any page, and the help feature doesn’t give me any useful information. I really need classic back!
January 11th, 2009 23:31
I have the same frustration of being unable to open my Windows Live Hotmail. Then I deleted my Live Messenger, and I could open up my hotmail. i don’t know if this works in the long run, becasue i still want MSN to chat to my friends…maybe just don’t link the two services.
December 30th, 2008 00:20
how in the heck do i get off windows live it,s the worst,,i can,t find classic hotmail and i have a slow connection,,i can,t open or send replys or delete…it,s friggin awful and really stressful.how did i get changed anyhow???

December 29th, 2008 08:26
It’s stressful with the new version of hotmail i cannot read my messages, i would rather prefer the old one
December 14th, 2008 23:22
This is annoying. I think this is the last straw. I switched to a mac because windows sucks, not windows has made hotmail suck too. Does not work with safari!!!
Screw it, I’m going to gmail. Why do they do this? Can’t microsoft be happy with the 90% market share they already have? Do they have to punish us non-windows users by not making their hotmail compatible too? Screw you microsoft!
You suck!!!
December 11th, 2008 11:14
With this new Hotmail Version i can not find any emails in my folders……..what happened to them?
December 9th, 2008 18:14
i can do easily mails by using old hotmail version
December 8th, 2008 18:59
Windows live mail continues to be unreliable will not allow me to spell check in Safari Continues to deliberately be in compatible with browsers other than Microsoft to try to again force users to use IE. Switching to Gmail which remains reliable which is what I need in a communications medium if your phone only worked 75 % of the time you’d switch.
Microsoft yet again have made incompatibility their trade mark in an attempt to corner the market. Switched to Mac because of vista now driven to Gmail because of hot mail. Microsoft wants to actually listen to people rather than geeks that want to show off their superior tech knowledge who dont live in the real world but live in cuber space.
December 8th, 2008 16:28
Im having troubles with mine, clicking the options button just freezes up the internet. Java sucks
December 7th, 2008 19:06
Is anybody else finding it increasungly difficult to access their hotmail account at all? Almost every day, there’s a period where the website is completely inaccessible, (like now). I don’t think it’s just my laptop as it happens when I try other computers. Hotmail has been an incredibly useful tool for me but I’m beginning to regret being dependent on it when it’s becoming so unreliable. What’s going on? Any suggestions of any alternative free e-mail services I can sign up to that won’t let me down? Thanks.
December 1st, 2008 03:41
I have a PAID account, Hotmail Plus, and I now get a screwed up, almost useless service with no support – unless I pay them $49.00. (Probably more.) I have a paid account so I could use Outlook Express with Hotmail. Now they have stolen my address book and put it on their new useless, annoying system, Windows Live. I can’t receive Hotmail unless I use a free Hotmail system. My computer is crashing several times a day, and my keyboard flutters when I sign into Windows Live Hotmail. What were they thinking. They have used my address book without my permission, extracted names from it, and now have hooked up my address book with Face Book! I didn’t not agree to that! This new system is invading my privacy and the privacy of my friends and personal business contacts. This stinks.
November 29th, 2008 20:54

November 28th, 2008 18:57
I want my hotmail reverted back to Classic version. There are too many problems with the Live Hotmail. Biggest mistake ever made accepting this version. Need Classic back.
November 28th, 2008 12:30
I really hate this live new version of hotmail. It totally sucks! Everytime i got some important email, this freaking hotmail won’t open. Damn. I think i definately going to change to other company! DAMN HOTMAIL!
November 27th, 2008 00:21
como faço para retornar para o hotmail classico?
November 25th, 2008 23:05
I think the FCC should be involved in Microsofts failure to actually switch people back to Classic Windows Hotmail. NONE OF THE SUPPOSED WAYS TO SWITCH BACK ARE EITHER PRESENT AS YOU SAY THEY ARE OR DO NOT ACCOMPLISH THE RELATIVELY SIMPLE TASK OF RESUMING CLASSIC HOTMAIL. NONE OF MY PREVIOUS E-MAILS ABOUT THIS ISSUE HAVE RESULTED IN THE CHANGE I AND SO MANY OTHERS ARE REQUESTING.
I WANT A SOLUTION TO THIS MESS.
November 22nd, 2008 20:18
EU QUERO O HOTMAIL CLASSICO DE VOLTA !!!

November 22nd, 2008 18:30
This is really annoying me i can’t do anything with this stupid email i can’t send or delete anything it’s all over the place it’s not even letting me click on the folders it’s horrible i can’t even work on my emails anymore please do some thing .!!
November 21st, 2008 23:20
I agree with all the previous people, this new Live is terrible and somebody has made a big mistake with this one. I have now moved to Gmail and Yahoo and would love to move back to Hotmail, which I have had for the past 5 years with no complaints.
This new version does not function well, and is a waste of time. For the lady who had the font too large to read – this happened to me also. Went to windows and clicked on “restore to original” I now have micro-font, but at least I can read things.
MSN, please fire the ones who created this new Live Email, and get somebody that can just press a button and switch us back to the regular version.
Did this just happen in America or did it affect the whole world’s Hotmail. What happened to the good old “Freedom of Choice?”
Everybody who dislikes this version, please keep complaining and telling people about this site so that they know they are not alone.
Polly
November 21st, 2008 09:32

Quiero cambia mi hotmail para el “hotmail clasic” no quiero ,,ni me gusta el live mail ..gracias ,,josefina
November 18th, 2008 03:04
my entire inbox is gone. Though I’m logged into my account, the message I see where my inbox used to be is “You don’t have an inbox…yet. Sign up for Windows Live Hotmail and get a free, customizable inbox with lots of storage and great security. Note: Whether you use Hotmail or not, you can always go to your contact list.”
can anyone here enlighten me? sigh.
November 17th, 2008 06:36
Today when I went to Hotmail to send an email I discovered MY ENTIRE CONTACT LIST IS WIPED OUT, NOTHING THERE!!!. Hotmail users BE WARNED!!
November 16th, 2008 10:32
This won’t work for me. :C
I don’t get the message saying, “You’re using the full version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Click here to try the classic version, which is good for slow connections.
You can also Switch to MSN Hotmail.” when I click on more options.
November 15th, 2008 06:12
I think it’s cak meself, why change things, if it aint broken tec..these people must be politicians [on a diff planet]. anyway there are lot of free mail services out there. I only use hotmail to sign-up for stuff, that I know will spam me..
November 14th, 2008 05:15
I, too, am fed up with this SLOW nonsense. It doesn’t ever make sense to develop something and not obtain end-user opinion! I’ve submitted the “feedback” requested in the new Windows Live Slowmail, but am quite convinced that after this many people have expressed concern and they’ve not reverted, they probably won’t! So, let’s all change to different e-mail services and leave them stewing in their so-called upgrade…with no customers. Would THAT tell them anything?
November 13th, 2008 01:19
I’d like to add my comments in case anyone from Microsoft actually listens. Change Hotmail back to something that works fast and is easy to navigate. 30 more days of this lousy product and I’m switching to Gmail.
November 12th, 2008 21:57
please change me back this is useless
November 12th, 2008 17:08
and so what, every one is mad and still no way to switch back from this version, htere must be any solution
November 12th, 2008 05:12
the new version is utter rubbish we should have been given the choice as an oap who uses the web all the time to keep in touch with my friends and am very angry i was very happy with the old system but feel very let down
November 12th, 2008 04:11
where is the switch page?
November 12th, 2008 04:09
Hate windows live too. No contact list and can’t forward
November 11th, 2008 12:22
Bleedin’ Christ. Makes the web page slower and less usable in so many ways. Don’t they even consider the user experience. Don’t have to design stuff to pacify the developers by letting them change everything just for the sake of it.
November 11th, 2008 02:10
I can’t forward anymore they put the contacts on another page so it doesn’t send. I like the way that it was before.
November 10th, 2008 15:37
am sorry but i don’t like this version at all .. you had ask us first before you convert to this stupid version
November 10th, 2008 08:54
please give me a break ….please give me back my classic version…….
November 10th, 2008 07:14
i need stuff from my old folders
November 10th, 2008 04:51
hey windows manager! i want to switch back to my previous windows live hotmail, the one b4 i upgraded it to the newest version, but i can’t find the “switch to classic ” buton anywhere. could u pls help me coz i really dont like this version. thanx
November 9th, 2008 20:22
what can i do to switch to the classic version as my page don’t has this lik “switch to classic version” in its left corner or in any place on it, and also in my more option page i don’t have this message “You’re using the full version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Click here to try the classic version, which is good for slow connections.”
November 8th, 2008 07:16
Add my thoughts to the fact that the new format sux, bigtime. The change was probably “make work” to avoid someone getting canned, coz of lack of something to do. This format makes Yahoo interface look like it was designed by genius’.
November 8th, 2008 01:24
I’ve created a GMail account because I want to ditch Hotmail now – it totally sucks!!!
I know about exporting the Contacts list, but is there an easier way to forward all my existing mail than having to go to each and every one and forward them?
I want to keep all my existing email that I have in my varios folders – I’ve created the same folders in Gmail, but is there a “bulk” forward option? I thought maybe I could “checkmark” all the emails and then hit a forward button (in the same fashion as if I wanted to do a bulk delete), but I can’t find a way to select multiple emails and then forward them all.
Is there a way?
Help anyone, cause as we all know, this new Hotmail Live is CRAP …. and I’m going to leave Hotmail totally once I can get all my old email sent over to my new Gmail.
Thanks!!!
November 8th, 2008 01:03
Thanks LaMonte
I tried the windows live beta and it’s much easier to use. I still don’t trust them so I will see how it works. If you don’t want Windows Live Beta, export your contacts and save them to your desktop and import them from yahoo contacts options. They download in like 3 seconds. Saves time on trying to write and type all of the contacts you have in your list. I used the vacation reply and told everyone to contact me at yahoo now.. I’m still mad! But thanks for the tip.
November 8th, 2008 00:13
How do I find my folders when in the inbox? All I see is related places on the side where they use to be.
I hate this new version too but I really need something out of one of my old folders.. please help!
November 7th, 2008 23:48
HEY! THIS IS GREAT! I just wrote cuz I was pissed and wanted the classic.
Since we can’t have classic download WINDOWS LIVE BETA VERSION! I just did. I am involved in multiple programs on the web, so changing my address is a pain in the ass!
It is good. The scroll bar works now! I can see all of my folders again. Life is good!
I wish there was a way I could pass this to everyone! Just go to your hotmail and click settings or services or something I forgot.. Just look for the free beta download.
November 7th, 2008 23:17
I am extremely frustrated with this new windows live window! All my of my 20+ folders are squished and unrecognizable. I didn’t know how content I was with the old version until it was gone! Bring the classic version back! This is ridiculous!
November 7th, 2008 23:13
I don’t know when this article was originally written, but it does not apply any more. There was a rollback option in the Windows Live Mail beta, but that option is gone now. The only thing I don’t like about it is the absence of the Check Mail button, I don’t know why they would get rid of that.
November 7th, 2008 21:14
Your new “Windows live” version leaves a lot to be desired. I cannot access all of my email addresses when going to BCC. Not enough room to scroll down but 20 addresses of 105. I cannot remove addresses from emails that I forward and privacy is important. I do not care for this brilliant computer concept as it has completely disrupted my schedule, my communications and my disposition.
November 7th, 2008 17:36
From another blog:
“If your account has been upgraded to Windows Live Hotmail as part of the migration, you may not be able to revert to Hotmail, but you can use the classic interface of Windows Live Hotmail. The ability to revert existed during the beta when someone switched to the beta and allowed you to go back. All accounts will eventually be switched to WL Hotmail.

Everyone who is upset with the new Hotmail should let Mr Boots know what they think at sboots@mvps.org
Also, you can eventually submit a complaint directly to Hotmail if you surf through the ‘Help Central’ and ‘Feedback’ sections (click the blue question mark icon on the upper far right of your Hotmail inbox).
Complain long and loud, and just maybe they’ll bring back the classic view option.
Or just switch to Gmail
November 7th, 2008 14:28
Well the idiots are at it again. It is obvious that someone with the brain the size of a walnut redesigned the page layout using a large monitor. The type and left side bar are too large for the average 17 inch screen. Amazing these “creative geniuses” have jobs and their supervisors sign off on mistakes like this.
November 7th, 2008 13:49
The responses from hotmail seem to dwell on the change, trying to assure people that over time they will get used to the change, that they are only upset because it is a change…that is silly. We are upset because the new version is awful and far inferior to the other version. They could change it, WHY CAN’T THEY CHANGE IT BACK???
November 7th, 2008 13:25
I have written hotmail in desperation 5 times. They don’t write back. I hate the new Hotmail too. The format is so large that you can’t see the whole screen unless you scroll back and forth. And the scroll bar on the right is hidden by another scroll bar. HOW DO WE GET THE OLD VERSION BACK? THIS IS AWFUL. Also, things disappear and things that I didn’t click on, pop up. IT IS TERRIBLE.
November 7th, 2008 07:22
I suggest hotmail to go back to clasical version, otherwise it may loose many users….new version is not user friendly…we can not see any option of switching back to classical one.
November 7th, 2008 05:04
Don’t hate, bit don’t like it!
Dowsn’t work with Opera browser !@#$%^&.
The up/down scroll bar for folders driving me nuts!.
QUIERO EL HOTMAIL ANTIGUO!
Bring back the old User Interfase
November 7th, 2008 04:59
I hate this new look.. It’s hard on my eyes and it’s extremely irritating.. If anyone finds a miracle way to change back please let me know.. going back to Yahoo which I hate… We should have options.
November 6th, 2008 06:14
the new version sucks & the rop down menu for changing back 2 classic does not provide the option
November 6th, 2008 05:33
I hate this version. They did this before and I want to go back to classic. I don’t have the option to Switch Back or it’s completely hidden. Please change this back!!
November 6th, 2008 05:16
Who reply for us?
To whom interesting our cry?
Many years we were HOTMAIL.com
So fucking System!
November 6th, 2008 05:11
I need ro return back to my classic version
I cannot Do It!!!
I need Leave Windows Live Hotmail and Revert Back to Classic MSN Hotmail” -I.m very angry and crazy.
Why you change ,I don;t ask it!!!!
This advice from you :
” Simply look for “Switch to classic” link located in the bottom left corner, and you’re done.” doesn;t work, because I don;t have
this link “Switch to classic” on my page!!!!
November 6th, 2008 03:35
I ALREADY TRIED THE FORWARDING IDEA AND IT DOES NOT WORK.
HOTMAIL OR YAHOO. THEY BOTH DON’T SUPPORT EMAIL FORWARDING.
I AM ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH THIS SITUATION AFTER MANY MANY YEARS ON HOTMAIL.
November 6th, 2008 03:16
This is complete BS. They obviously must have put a female in charge of this bullshit. Look at all the gay colors offered as themes. Hotmail can go fuck themselves!! I’m forwarding all my mail to my Yahoo Account. Thanks a lot MSN!!

November 5th, 2008 18:10
I’ve explored every avenue to get back to Hotmail Classic as I really can’t get on with the new unasked for version.
I have had a semi-dormant account with Yahoo for years which I shall now resurrect and use as my primary mail account.
Goodbye Hotmail.
November 5th, 2008 06:05
I can open hotmail live in firefox but it’s still lousy, slow and horrible. I HATE IT. yahoo mail must be getting a ton of new subscribers these days!

Ken: Thanks for the advice. I should have thought of that but I was too caught up in the anger of trying to resolve a Microsoft problem. : ) I’ll let you know how it works. Thanks, Anna
November 5th, 2008 05:46
Reality is that the old Hotmail is gone and not coming back. For those of you that cannot access your email messages in Hotmail, download the Firefox browser at http://www.mozilla.com. You should be able to use it to open up your email messages. You can still use IE and Firefox on the same computer with no problems. It is very apparent that Microsoft does not care about any of us.
November 5th, 2008 05:21
I don’t see any option for changing it back. I’ve written to microsoft but no answer as of today. PLEAES HELP. I WANT MY OLD HOTMAIL BACK!
November 5th, 2008 00:47
OK, So after the MSN LIVE! so-called support people screwed up repeatedly, i.e. addressing the wrong issue a few times, and obviously not reading my emails, here’s their/it’s response(To condense: it happened, you’ll enjoy it, get over it):

I’ve been trying for 3 weeks to get back to Classic. I agree with all of you. Can’t print out correctly, can’t see complete messages in the window, etc., etc.
Thinking of changing to another Internet Provider, as this is unbelievable what they’ve done with no notification or reason. Thanks for letting me vent.

HOW can they just upgrade my account to a Live Hotmail account – WHEN i DIDN’T SIGN UP OR ASK FOR IT??? DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL TO HAVE THEM REMOVE IT & GIVE ME BACK MY CLASSIC lIVE ACCOUNT? Or – is there an online tech support to get help? This is CRAZY! My email is all screwed up. I can’t do anything. I can’t believe they have FORCED this on people.
November 1st, 2008 03:51
After hours of trying to switch back to MSN Hotmail Classic from Windows Live it seems that option is no longer available. However I still have another ‘Classic’ acount that has a smaller capactiy and hasn’t been forcibly changed. I now have all my e-mails automatically sent to my ‘Classic’ account from Windows Live which is still optional and where I can manage them as before. What a pain in the arse!
November 1st, 2008 01:02
I called MSN support at 800-386-5550, & got some wog who said since my account was free there was nothing to do. I’m trying the MSN Auto care. We shall see
Download MSN Auto Care

Well they switched me too without asking and I can’t figure out how to go back to classic… and on TOP of that.. they don’t allow you to compose emails anymore (unless you are running an acceptable operating system)…
YES YOU HEARD ME RIGHT!!! If you are running Firefox on Linux, chances are you can do most things, but cannot actually TYPE in the body of the email.
FWIW, I’ve created a user agent profile (to lie to websites and javascript) that I am running FireFox 2.0.0.11 on Windows98 (really Linux/Ubuntu) and magically I can compose emails and use the new interface JUST fine — even though it’s the SAME web browser!??
Don’t believe me?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEsrohWe3Vo
I wish I had a higher res version available (which it was 480×360 and I tried with 640×480) .. but it’s really lame that switching user agent (lying to hotmail) solves a issue — oh wait that’s a feature (causing problems to non-windows OS’s)

What a load of shit the new Hotmail Live is! The task bar blocks your contact list when you want to send a multiple contact e-mail. If I wanted to change I’d of asked to. Either give me my ‘Classic Hotmail’ back or get bent Gates.
Arseholes!
October 31st, 2008 22:14
I HATE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Windows Live is a piece of CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!
None of these help instructions are useful, none of the methods taught here to switch back to classic hotmail are really avaialble.
There is no button on the bottom left to “Switch back to Classic”
There is no menu option in the Options dropdown menu to “Opt out of Windows Live” or to “Switch back to Classic”
I can’t stand the new interface, and I too was upgraded to this new CRAPPY Live without consenting.
I tried to log into my old classic Hotmail and wa presented with a page that asked if I wanted to upgrade to new Live, I clicked the NO button, but wham-bam, thank-you ma’am it was sent to the new CRAP and am now stuck with it.
I’ve sent numerous emails to their Feedback, Help Central, Contact Us links, etc … and no reply.
If they don’t resolve this or provide a way to switch back SOON …. I will forward all my email and setup a new account on Yahoo or some other service and LEAVE this DUMBSH!T, CRAPPY, Live bull dung.
With all the AJAX crap, half the crap no longer loads, it constantly freezes up and I have to switch to Task Manager and end the IE session … it’s a big bunch of CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate the ‘new look’. And, right, I can’t find a way to contact them. I used to be able to send tech an email – guess they have no tech support anymore.

Please help me to get my old versin msn back,I can not use the knew one.
April 11th, 2008 13:44
Classic Hotmail out ranked: AOL, Gmail and Yahoo. Window’s Live is fancy but I want to read my emails quickly, not have to become a computer wiz to read them.
After all of the hard work freelnace providers have to do online, the last thing we want is to have to work another job by understanding our friendly email provider. New isn’t always the best, the best is the best and that was the Classic Version.
After the new has worn out, the Classic will be the community choice.
March 25th, 2008 12:23
I would like to direct any and all people whose experiences with hotmail have been less than pleasant to enjoy an entertaining article at:

February 9th, 2008 06:22
This tutorial doesn’t work anymore, MSN removed the change to classic link and you are stuck in this live version.
January 24th, 2008 04:23
Your only choice now is Windows Live Hotmail full or classic. Both are total crap, but you can email plain text in classic.
Leave it to Microsoft to be the first to really screw up webmail.
January 22nd, 2008 22:29
pleas tell me how to proceed to revert back to classicMsn Hotmail..as i have problems with the Windows Live…all my text are blank
January 21st, 2008 22:57
this is too difficult to read or send mails on live hotmail version so i m quiting to old hotmail.
January 20th, 2008 17:00
You know it really pisses me off when you guys decide to switch people over to something else without us knowing ,in a sneaky ,yet false advertising sort of way ,and before you know it everything is screwed up and it’s a major inconvienience!!!!!!!!!!.the worst thing you could have done .why ever change anything that’s working?! I just might switch to yahoo for this one out of spite!
January 18th, 2008 06:20
Windows Live Hotmail does not send e-mail in text. Hotmail does. I want to send email in text. So get me back.
January 14th, 2008 12:36
Pat Mac: Consider yourself VERY lucky, and yes, start thinking about switching, because, when the switch comes (which it has for the rest of us), you won’t be happy. During my transition away from MSN Live Mail (I refuse to even honor it by calling it Hotmail, and I see that Microsoft has dropped the reference in many places) after they switched me, I’ve lately noticed several instances when I cannot get onto the server or times when the server is so busy that I can’t tell if a message has actually been sent or not; and yes, that is with premium. Very poor planning– a so-called upgrade with less service? Oh, yeah, it’s Microsoft! I’m very glad to have made the change to another service. Signed, a thoroughly thrilled subscriber of nine years that MSN kicked to the wind!
January 14th, 2008 06:11
Ken, many customers do still have the classic MSN Hotmail look. I myself have it as I never opt’d to upgrade. Customers who have paid MSN accounts or receive MSN e-mail/premium service through their ISP (e.g. Verizon, Bell Canada, etc..) still have the classic MSN classic look unless they chose to upgrade. The login page for hotmail has finally changed from the classic look to live, but the actual email account on my end still has the MSN Hotmail design, same one it has had for 6 years now. I may be switching soon because you have to refresh the page multiple times or else the page is blank after login.
January 12th, 2008 19:41
how can i switch back to original hotmail
pls tell me??
i don’t like hotmail live version
ordinary_boyz@hotmail.com

December 30th, 2007 08:51
It is obvious that dude is confused and is thinking he does have MSN Hotmail and it really is Windows Live Hotmail. MSN classic Hotmail does not exist anymore.
December 30th, 2007 08:30
dude:
how do you still have msn hotmail??? please let us know!
December 29th, 2007 22:58
Ehh, I still have MSN Hotmail.
December 19th, 2007 04:34
i want to switch to MSN hotmail but i dont have (switch to MSN hotmail) Option ??!!!!
December 17th, 2007 17:57
Thank you very much Stephen, I appriciate it. It’s just, Yahoo Mail gives us the option of switching back to the old classic style, and it just blows me away that hotmail doesn’t do the same, because the thing is, not everyone is going to be happy with the new style, and it’s like Mircosoft doesn’t even care about the people who enjoyed the old style of it.
Yeah… But oh well I guess.
Thanks again, and merry christmas.
December 16th, 2007 23:42
Jonathan, et al:
The information posted here and elsewhere about reverting to Classic Hotmail is not false, it is just dated– AS OF NOV 1 2007 CLASSIC CEASED TO EXIST.
I, too, had used hotmail as my primary address– for personal and business use –since the late ’90s, and it’s been more than a couple of pains to recover. It’s not free (or even cheap), but for business users, I can personally recommend Webmail.us –it has an interface that is nearly identical to the old hotmail. They have a few quirks that I don’t particularly care for, but I’ve gotten used to them in a couple of weeks. For free services, I know more than a few acquaintences who have changed to inbox.com and been mostly happy with the result.
Classic Hotmail was a fantastic program and I guess we’re all fortunate that Microsoft waited so long to screw it up. It’s too bad that they misled us into thinking the change to Live Hotmail was an upgrade; it’s also too bad that they decided at the last minute to even attach the Hotmail name to the new product.
But, that’s life . . .
December 16th, 2007 19:08
I read the instructions, yet, I still can’t switch back to the Classic MSN Hotmail like I want too. THIS IS BULL!!!
Honestly, I have a really BIG problem with his new Windows Live Hotmail crap. This is the one e-mail address that I normally use to e-mail my co-workers, family and all that, and this huge switch to Windows live hotmail has screwed that all up, because now, whenever someone e-mail’s me a picture, looks like a pathedic little tic tac, and when I used Classic MSN Hotmail, it was the right size, and it didn’t shrink the pic to a damn ant like Windows like hotmail does.
Plus now, I lose important messages that I NEED for work, and with Classic MSN Hotmail, I never had this problem.
Now damn it all, will someone PLEASE tell me how I can switch back to Classic MSN Hotmail, and with no false information, PLEASE!!! I would really really appriciate it.

Since the introduction of the NEW MSN Windows Live and Hotmail, I have not been able to sign-in with my previously used email, username, and password. Therefore losing all my previous contacts and email messages with the old hotmail. Is there a way I can still retrieve them ?? I was forced to sing in with a new email user address, why?

That is what I call “authoritarianism” from Microsoft, but do not forget that we can control it. Start using Firefox, Linux, Apple, there are better alternatives out there.
November 19th, 2007 22:10
l want to go back to original msn mail. not msn hotmail. there’s no way to do it..l’ve tried everything..guess we’ll have to wait for another version.

November 18th, 2007 07:19
Since the new hotmail is not as good as the old hotmail, and since it now appears that we (at least some of us) can no longer switch back from “Live”, what is the next best alternative? Is there another Webmail service that is comparable to the old hotmail? I haven’t found it yet if there is, but I’m still hoping! It sure would be nice if the old interface could be resurrected by someone else now that Microsoft has ditched it…
November 15th, 2007 08:01
Sorry folks, I think we’re lost it. Less and less comment as people either leave hotmail or get used to the new ghastly format. Just shows you, if you sit there like Microsoft has since they changed our dear old hotmail and do nothing, people run out of puff……however, I will never buy a Microsoft product again and my next computer will be an Apple.

Tabasco, can you please give us the link which leads to the “Switch to MSN Hotmail” in the accounts where this option is still available? Maybe we can trick them if we see/arrive at the page indicated by that link.
Thank you!
>>> Tabasco wrote (on July 22nd, 2007 01:09)
Vanguard I’m not sure if you’re right because I have several hotmail accounts, and at one account I don’t see the “switch to old version” anywhere in the options, while another does. What’s the explanation too that?
November 2nd, 2007 15:50

November 1st, 2007 07:13
Jody, you’re lucky to have found the way back, even if it did disappear. I HATE those hideous advertisements on the “new & improved” version. Is anyone having any luck getting in touch with ANYONE at hotmail/Microsoft???. This whole thing is contemptable
November 1st, 2007 04:07
i switched back once before, so i knew where the button was and everything… but now it’s GONE!
You are using the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Have a fast connection and want more features? Try the full version to see message previews in your inbox. (It’s free, too.)

what really makes me mad is this — i signed on using another computer, which used “live”, and it automatically upgraded me w/o my permission!!
October 29th, 2007 18:49
Has anyone considered what’s really going on here with this useless new Hotmail Live? I’m incandescent about these roll down ads which disable the operation bar totally. At the rate at which we are abandoning Hotmail, because of this, I would be very worried if I were an advertiser with Hotmail. Who will be left to see their ads? I wonder if MSN are doing this deliberately? To drive away the users of this ‘free’ service, so they can relaunch it as a ‘paying’ service? It’s just a thought. Any other views on this?
October 27th, 2007 11:27

I have a problem with my hotmail account , it seems that whenever I login with the older version of hotmail it everthing works smoothly but when I use the windows live it somehow hangs up on me and at the end saying CANNOT FIND SERVER
How can this problem be solve.
October 24th, 2007 10:57
Some of the many reasons that the Windows Live Hotmail is terrible: The rich text is the default and you now have to click on the button to revert back to plain text. You cannot cut and paste in rich text. Sometimes, return messages are now jammed together at the bottom of the email. When trying to send an email reply back, sometimes the original sender’s name is not present in the sender address block. Pop up blockers are controlling almost every email you receive even if you enter the addresses in your trusted security file.
October 24th, 2007 05:27
for some reason, although it says in the article above that there is an option sying “You can also Switch to MSN Hotmail,” i cant seem to find it and I WANT IT BACK. yesterday, i was using a third party to download my hotmail messages to my cell. to do that they switched me to this horrid horrid windows live. i was on the old old one, but cannot get back since yesterday. how can i fix it?????

I’d love to revert back to regular hotmail. I hate windows live hotmail. I can never log in when I want to. How do I revert back?
October 16th, 2007 07:30
JUST A SUGGESTION FOR RELIEF OF WINDOWS LIVE.
ON THE BOTTOM LEFT OF YOUR COMPUTER YOU SHOULD SEE A START BUTTON.
CLICK THE START BUTTON.
GO TO SETTINGS, CLICK AGAIN.
GO TO CONTROL PANEL, CLICK AGAIN
GO TO ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
SELECT THE PROGRAM(S) YOU WANT REMOVED.
THEN CLICK ON THE WORD REMOVE.
LET THE COMPUTER TAKE IT FROM THERE AND TELL YOU WHAT TO DO IF ANYTHING.
October 16th, 2007 04:31
There should also be a thesaurus included in that menu bar I suggested to have made available to all your MSN hotmail customers.

Guess half the planet uses hotmail and the “few” of us who have expressed a collective loathing for the new format can go to hell as far as they are concerned. However, great to know that I wasn’t overreacting when the new “improved” format was put on my email without my consent.

I’ve found a direct email address for the LIVE HOTMAIL support team at Microsoft! Keep in mind they already know they suck and they royally f—-d up the format change, so remember to not waste your email just yelling at them. Definitely do start off your email by saying you want back the old vMSN Hotmail, but also describe some of the SPECIFIC problems that you’re having with WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL and want fixed. Be SPECIFIC as you can about problems and complaints you’ve had with the format and interface change.
Don’t expect a reply, since the address could crash and shut down very soon, but here is the working email address as of Oct. 4, 2007:

I hate it and just want it the way it was when it WORKED.

I don’t have a problem with never using it again, starting in about a week so that I can change over my contacts to gmail.
If I had the time to do so, I’d like to open fifty new accounts and let them all expire at the same time — 90 days from now.

I hate the new live version of hotmail and I want to go back to the classic MSN Hotmail.
I would like to see a menu bar offered that has Bold, Underline, Highlight, Font color selective choice, punctuation correction,
proofreader, spell check, grammar check and
World Book Dictionary.
The New live hotmail version, is frustrating,
aggrevating, blood pressure raising and has way too many complexities which interfere with what you are doing or freezes the entire computer and wastes valuable time that could be put to more effective and productive use as well as enjoyment.GET RID OF THELIVE HOT MAIL VERSION AND GET BACK TO THE CLASSIC MSN HOTMAIL VERSION. mICROSOFT SATISFY THE NEEDS OF YOUR CUSTOMERS INSTEAD OF YOUR OWN WANTS.

CLASSIC COKE RETURNED,SO PERHAPS THE OLD HOTMAIL,I HAVE BEEN USING FOR MANY YEARS,WILL DO THE SAME? ‘NAWT-BLUDDY-LOIKLEY!!”
I CUSSED OUT MSN VIA A COMPALINT-MAIL TO SOME DORKUS MSN WORKER-DRONE AND SHE HAD THE STANDARD RESPONSE OF MOSTLY IGNORING MY REQUEST TO SWITCH BACK(I ASKED HER TO DO THIS FOR ME)AS IT WAS MORE OR LESS …’YOUR FU#KED AND LIVE WITH IT DUDE’.
THE CLASSIC LIVE VERSION IS SLOOOWWW AND JUST SUCKS,BIG TIME.WHAT A BUNCH OF OVER PAID CORPIRATE IDIOT,CASSHOLES!
October 4th, 2007 04:10
Just opened my inbox today to check the emails and only to find myself in live hotmail instead of the old classic version, They trapped me. I could come out of the beta at the time when there was that link which allowed us to go back whereas the other people who were late to change it back couldn’t do it. So i was real happy and telling some people than i didn’t change mine to the new one when they were complaining. And many people know my this one email. And it’s hard to get another one now. SO HOTMAIL F*** YOU MAN. EVERYBODY’S SPITTING ON YOU AND YOUR WHOLE F***ING TEAM. PEOPLE WORKING THERE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF EVEN SAYING WE’RE WORKING WITH THE HOTMAIL. DAMN YOU, BITCHES..
Sorry for the swearing/cursing (NOT SORRY TO HOTMAIL AND IT’S F***ING TEAM)..

Well I swithed to Gmail & bye bye hotmail you realy f!@#$ up things. Been waiting 2 weeks for these f!@#$ to change it back but no responce from them. I think they’re going to loose alot of clients “goodbye” msn hotmail crap.
October 2nd, 2007 22:50
And what’s with the so-called “classic” view option in WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL? No way is there anything classic about it, It’s just a slow connection version of the lousy new format.
October 2nd, 2007 11:19
it’s just fake you just decided to force us to using your service even if we don’t agree.
I’ll switch to gmail it’s the best for me
October 2nd, 2007 11:05
I’ve noticed another half-assed “improvement” that the LIVE HOTMAIL update forces on users. If you download and save emails in the pintable format (the only format that I am able to download) for offline reading, the average size taken up by a brief downloaded email has increased TEN-FOLD — from 12kb to 120kb!
I know it’s not a major deal if you’ve got a newer computer with tons and tons of excess storage space for huge video games and whatnot, but why the hell does the LIVE format need to hog ten times more space than the MSM Hotmail format ever did?
What a piece of bloated crap.
October 2nd, 2007 08:43
ahhhhhh!!! FUCK THIS! I need major help.. is there any way of switching back to msn hotmail.. i accidently updated today and ive been trying to switch back but i cant.. FUCK WINDOWS LIVE SHIT.. some one please help, im about to start smashing stuff…
October 2nd, 2007 01:42
I agree with all of you, I don’t like this
Window Live Messenger at all which was forced on me without my consent! I want the Classic MSN Hotmail back, the beauty of simplicity!! I sent my feedback,to no avail nor response – Plan to copy/paste this link and sent it also, maybe they will hear us out … New doesn’t always mean better.
October 2nd, 2007 01:17
Hotmail used to be easy. Then Microsoft got involved. Now I can’t login on windows live
for hotmail, or hotmail. Microsoft! Leave
things that aren’t broken ALONE! You’ve messed this up so badly, we’ll never ever get it back as easy and simple as it was. How the
Hell do I get my email now?
October 1st, 2007 00:58
i agree with all ov u i fink dey shud bring bck de old msn hotmail
September 30th, 2007 07:31
Has anyone seen or received even the slighest response from Microsoft about all the crappy changes and non-improvements it’s it made to Hotmail. Does anyone think Microsoft has paid any attention to a single feedback comment?
Me neither.
September 30th, 2007 01:59
WTF… I’m from amsterdam. And today they forced me to live mail. WHat the hell is this. Before this happend already and with a trick (changing the language i could activate the switch back button) But now it seems they are not giving this option anymore and im stuck in Live mail. I HATE LIVE. If they dont give me the option to go back soon. I’m going to leave hotmail. (and i used this for over 10 yrs.) Can’t believe they didnt gave us a option.
thanks for listening.
September 29th, 2007 23:22
Try as I might to follow the above instructions to switch back to the OLD regular hotmail I do not get the same instructions as listed and can’t seem to do it! Argh. The new Live Hotmail sucks butt!
September 29th, 2007 04:50
Please issue an information bulletin for those wishing to REVERT TO CLASSIC hotmail as was in place prior to WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL. There are many of us quite satisfied with this edition of hotmail
Thank you, Gordon
September 29th, 2007 01:28
I AM NOT AT ALL PLEASED WITH HOTMAIL ANYMORE
September 29th, 2007 01:27
WELL WELL I AM NOT THE LEAST BIT SURPRISED AT THE FOOLS AT THIS WWB SITE FOR SOME REASON THEY WANT US TO SEND THEM INFORMATION ON WHAT WE THINK OR WHAT WE WANT ,AND THEY DON’T EVEN ANSWER OUR MESSAGES.I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF THE PEOPLE WHO USE HOTMAIL,BUT IF I DON’T GET BACK THE HOTMAIL CLASSIC VERISON IN THE NEXT 12 HOURS I WILL BE GOING TO GMAIL OR EVEN YAHOO MAIL.TAKE TIME TO READ THESE AND HAVE THE COMMON SENSE TO ANSWER US.
September 28th, 2007 18:26
To make matters worse for me, their bozo update has “improved” the reply and forwarding functions by removing the left border line and smaller type size that used to consolidate and distinguish quoted passages. The new version formats quotes as run-on sentences piled into a block the same type size as the reply to the message or introduction to forwarded lines.
What a patronizing and needless insult to users of the previously simple and attractive Hotmail template.
September 27th, 2007 23:10
THIS IS F-IN SHITE!!
I hate it!!!
And there is no option to change it back!!!!
Ive e-mailed them with the feedback thing but Im not expecting anything to change…
I think I may just get a Google Mail….
September 27th, 2007 03:57
Fuckers bring me back my classic MSN hotmail version, you really like to make things complicated always.
September 26th, 2007 17:50
I am PISSED OFF!!! Imagine going for business trip to Europe, leaving country with sweet clasic version and arriving at the destination, hook up on internet and find this frigging Live crap staring at me!!!! I HATE IT WITH PASSION!!! I want my old version back!!
Regards Alena

EVERYONE! BOTTOM RIGHT OF YOUR HOTMAIL PAGE!
“feedback” option
theres an option for
“i want to give feedback about being automatically updated to windows live hotmail”
tell them what you think about it everyone. maybe if they realize how much we all hate it they’ll let us switch back.
September 26th, 2007 12:41
it doesn’t give you the option of switching back anymore. but… ARGHHHH i HATE Live. Both the Messenger and the Hotmail. It was perfectly fine before, but now my computer lags like a douche every time i try to use it.
I swear, hotmail will lose more people than win them over from other mailing services with the way they run things.
September 26th, 2007 03:58
What is going on !!! it’s really bad from Microsoft to change to the new bad style without care about the users !!!
WE NEED TO GET BACK THE OLD HOTMAIL STYLE !!!
PLEASE DO SOMETHING
September 25th, 2007 04:04
What the hell is going on. I can’t revert back from a version of hotmail I never asked to have. This is really frustrating me. Everytime Microsoft comes out with anew version they think only of speed, never with usability. Please bring back the simplicity of the older version.
September 25th, 2007 00:12
I seem to be stuck with the new version. And I am pretty ticked off as I don’t like it and don’t know what to do to get back to the old hotmail. And who to complain to?

i like to switch off windows live back to old hotmail and i can’t get it,

September 23rd, 2007 10:34
I am with everyone here, I have been trying to gain the original true orginal msn hotmail back with no luck from the msn live team what so ever. I left about maybe 3 negative feedbacks because their website email service is down. Probably too much pressure to revert. Unfortunately I always used the old hotmail as my main account and still love it. I about a few days away from moving everything I have into yahoo, its a pain but i really want to give them time to fix this. Hopefully!!
September 23rd, 2007 00:15
is is just me or did my old school Hotmail change to windows live classic by itself?
is anyone getting this forced upgrade?
September 22nd, 2007 21:57
JUST A CLICK WILL DO
Well I’m done with WINDOWS LIVE! It will be a week tomorrow and nothing has been done. I will be looking for another server. Thanks to who ever changed CLASSIC!!! windows live will never be a CLASSIC, it will be “windows dead”!
PS. You need to read your E/mails, if you can find them!!!!!!!
SO LONG LOOSER’S
September 22nd, 2007 13:37
Just keep demanding through feedback that MSN give the option to revert back. Hopefully MSN will soon understands that many of their users will abandon the service for a competitor. And once we leave it’s hard if not impossible to get us back. Just ask the Recording Industry & Labels!!!
September 22nd, 2007 07:31
I’ve tried every thing I can to get back the old hotmail look and still nothing… I cant even get ahold of customer service for msn.. so I’ll keep sending complaints thru “feedback” until I get customer service and then I’ll flood them with complaints and I think every body should do the same. I’ve also changed my hotmail to yahoo mail… its sad because I’ve been using msn for 7 years now and now i’ve got to change because some idiot thouth windows live is a good thing. to bad its not and never will be.
September 22nd, 2007 06:25
please give us the choice to switch or not what if someone did the same thing to you didnt give you a choice about something so please switch us back or give us a switch button that is actually there cause i done even see one the only thing there is to switch you back to classic windows live please give us it back or old msn hotmail how many people do you want to lose to this or hear complaning about it

September 22nd, 2007 05:47
Just A Click Will Do
Remember Me, I’m Back AGAIN
AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE IT SAYS: “LEAVE WINDOWS LIVE AND REVIRT BACK TO CLASSIC HOTMAIL” Then theres a window in front of “SWITCH BACK TO CLASSIC” that you can’t get to. Well It’s not working still, HELLO !!!
1) can someone give us a answer, WHY !!!
2) Is there someone reading these SUBMITS that gives a DAMM.
3) can you tell that the plubic is Pissed off with HOTMAIL.
4) It would be nice if someone could send an e/mail to let us know whats going on.
5) “GOT Clue”
Whats it going to take to get an answer????
I forgot How many { of these } I have sent?
and I will keep on sending to you get something done or I get an answer !!!!!
September 21st, 2007 23:24
Windows Live Hotmail is slow, unattractive, and frustrating. I am very disappointed that I was automatically switched to this new version, that is definitely NOT an improvement. I want to revert to the MSN Hotmail version I was happily using before. I am angry that there does not seem to be option to do this. It doesn’t appear under the options menu. Is there another way to access this option? In the meantime I will continue sending feedback messages expressing my disgust with Live Hotmail every time I log in.
September 21st, 2007 23:10
these idiots at Msoft just shoved a piece of garbage down my throat with this Live thing. It sucks so bad that i tried it before and i switched back to the old hotmail. Now this time they forced it on me and i cant go back to old hotmail. I hate you hotmail and i dont think i will be using u for my primary email much longer.
September 21st, 2007 15:32
I’m surprised dinosaurs aren’t using this innovative upgrade. It would be something if the automated upgrade was actually that, instead of being a bulky, badly designed piece of programming that fails to work. When I finally located my mail options I found hardly any of them there. It doesn’t record any of my preference changes – like that for plain text or not viewing the today page. So many bugs. What a backwards step.

All aboard! Let’s get off this ship as it is sinking fast! What a bunch of self center, egotistical idiots. I hope this Microsoft company goes down and fast! They disgust me!

I think we all need to flood the “Feedback” on Live hotmail as much as we can many many times. I’ve done it about 5 times and I will continue to keep doing it till I reach at least 100 times. Maybe they’ll get the hint that they screwed up with this crap
September 21st, 2007 08:24
I also hate this windows live hotmail…. no one asked us if we wanted to switch or even gave us the option to stay with the old hotmail format… it just goes to show you that we the people have no rights even on the web.. I agree with people that say Gates get what Gates wants… So what if he likes it… give us the option if we want your crap or not..
September 21st, 2007 04:37
I HATE THIS STUPID WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL! I want the old hotmail back. I mean I could understand it if they had actually asked for my permission, but I just signed on today, and bam, I now have Windows Live Hotmail. I do not want this, and I was happy with the old hotmail. But I can’t find the feature. I hate this!
September 21st, 2007 01:41
su@#$%
ok… I move to gmail.
September 20th, 2007 23:33
It would have been courteous of MSN to inform us that we cannot switch back to our beloved hotmail accounts, so that thousands of IT guys around the country would not have to lose the productivity of searching for a solution that does not exist.
Time better spent switching to g mail.
September 20th, 2007 20:56
They’ve remobed the “Switch to MSN Hotmail” link.

September 20th, 2007 19:10

I hate windows live i wonna get my old hotmail
September 18th, 2007 23:10
PLEASEEEEE allow users the OPTION of reverting back. users hate being forced to accept what you give them and then having to continously inform MSN about the lack of features in the “newer” version e.g cut & paste (now available), can’t make changes to sent messages, # of emails per page etc. I haven’t spoken or read 1 blog of a person who enjoys the new beta. no wonder Goog and gmail continue to dominate. They listen to their users instead of dictating to them.
September 18th, 2007 20:37
Everyone I ended up switching to gmail.
its better, and vaguely easier to use I’m still getting used to it.
But not making me mad such as Live did
September 18th, 2007 20:16
I need to switch back NOW! This Windows live is dreadful.
September 18th, 2007 17:01

September 17th, 2007 23:49
I have followed your instructions but am still not able to convert back to cassic MSN Hotmail. Am I missing something? I originally choose the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail. I then upgraded to the full version allowing me to get the ‘more options’ link. When I did this though it only gave me the option to convert back to the classic version and not to revert back to classic MSN. Please help!
September 17th, 2007 22:25

September 17th, 2007 02:39
I hate Hotmail Live too!
I can’t afford new PC and new software just to use this new version.
This is a classic example of how MS assumes what the users want instead of asking.
One day I’ll purchase that new PC… and the MACs look more and more attractive all the time!
September 16th, 2007 23:14
JUST A CLICK WILL DO
I’m back and Mader than HELL
Whats Up with the window in front of “SWITCH BACK TO CLASSIC”
I believe that theres a PROBLEM. Do we know who’s going to fix it. Someone is NOT doing there JOB.
I would like to know if the same people are running MSN and WINDOWS LIVE!!! Or is it two different departments, Companies? It a shame how WINDOWS LIVE is making MSN look bad, if so.
I just had my e/mail up and was going to send something “WHERE WAS MY CONTACT LIST” not there
All I’ve got to say if theres a new CEO Get him out of there??????????
This will be my 7th COMMENT because Number 6th didn’t show up on the screen??? Hum

September 16th, 2007 04:22
Windows live sucks! it wont let me delete emails. I tried three different methods to revert back but any time it said something like “click the switch back link” the link didnt exist! It’s just not an option. Its driving me crazy.
September 16th, 2007 00:53
I am extermely annoyed with MSN’s decision to “upgrade” to a new version of hotmail. The only helpful feature is the option to save all sent messages. But the interface is now extremely clutterd. My laptop has a 15″ screen, and the amount of blank area when composing a message in Hotmail is now about 10%! What’s the point of having a 15″ screen? Also, there is no option to have incoming and outgoing mail in plain text, which is unacceptable. This is the main reason why I would like to change e-mail accounts at this point. Except hotmail seems to do everything to make changing accounts difficult – not possible to forward e-mail to gmail! It is also not possible with hotmail to download e-mail onto Outlook Express. So pretty much everything stinks about hotmail, and I regret having opened an account with them. Their switch to MSN Live Hotmail marks the end of the era of free e-mail accounts – at least for me.
September 15th, 2007 22:40
This is putrid… The new Windows Live layout looks like trash, I can not believe there is not “switch back” button. This better be resolved within in the week or I am switching to GMail.
September 15th, 2007 22:33
JUST A CLICK WOULD DO
I thought it was only me. But now seeing how many others HATES WINDOWS LIVE Too! I have been with MSN HOTMAIL for over 10 years.I submited a total of 4 comments to windows live and then it still took me an hour to find this “where I’m at now”! There should be a easier way to get back to THE GOOD OLD MSN HOTMAIL. “I will not even go there” about the CLICK ON HERE if you would like to go BACK to MSN HOTMAIL
Hopefully there will be someone updating this problem. And I can’t wait to show my husband that I was NOT the only one with this problem. I would hate to leave now after having my e/mail address for so long.
Sorry, I HATE WINDOWS LIVE
Thank You for listening to my 5th comment
September 15th, 2007 20:46
switch to back hotmail
September 15th, 2007 15:05
Please revert my Windows Live to classic hotmail (the old version of hotmail).
September 15th, 2007 10:30
I agree with everyone here… the new look was just shoved in both of my mail accounts… there was no e-mail asking me if I would like to switch, and no “revert back” button.
This is totally unacceptable, and I am now trying to locate means to sign a petition or other means to put pressure on them to change the looks back.
Until they wake-up and smell the roses, I am stopping using my emails; I’ll try and find another tool for now.
What utter non-sense.
Good luck to all of us.

September 15th, 2007 07:48
I have been having fits with this issue as well for 3 weeks with no workable suggestions from my internet provider. Yesterday, out of desparation, I keyd ‘MSN downloads’ into google and then downloaded MSN 8. That gave me the butterfly on my desktop. When I bring up that as my homepage, I am able to access my hotmail through Mail and More. You might try it. Not much to lose at this point. What a nightmare.
September 15th, 2007 06:46
I too just logged on to my account of 6 years and was horrified to see this “new and improved” update of theirs. If they don’t give me the option to switch back within the next week I will be switching to gmail and will have washed my hands of MSN for good!
September 15th, 2007 00:52
Its very unprofessional to have my email account changed automatically. If this problem isn’t corrected extremely soon I will not be using hotmail in the near future. I’m exhausted with this forced “beta” or “live” thing. If I have to go to the trouble of changing I won’t ever be back. Please give me the option to change back to my original msn hotmail.
September 14th, 2007 19:24
this is bad…I just logged in to my account to discover I have been automatically updated to the new Live mail…Horrible!!! And there is no switch back to MSN Hotmail button anymore…WTF is wrong with the Live Team in Microsoft…
September 14th, 2007 09:16
Assuming that by this time next week I’m still subjected to this torture I will have to go through the hassle of changing email accounts.I’ve had this one for years. Thanks for nothing Bill.
I want a simple email account. I must be able to rely on the fact that it will never lose my saved mail. It must be easy to access over the web, and it should almost never go down. I don’t need a ton of space. What do y’all recommend ? Yahoo ? G-mail ?
Steve
September 14th, 2007 07:00
Yeah, what the hell is this garbage? Today I went to hotmail.com and that was it — there was no going back. It just automatically reverts me to Windows Live Mail now; there is no option I see to get back to the old hotmail which I’d like. Live Mail sucks.
September 14th, 2007 06:01
I want my old Hotmail back!!!! I’ve been using the same e-mail address for TEN years and I can’t find a switch back button!!
Help!!!!!
September 13th, 2007 12:55
Feeling frustrated, I just like the old verison better too– its only lets me switch between “CLASSIC” aka NEW LIVE or “FULL” aka even sucker NEW LIVE verison–wtf i’ve had my email account for years and this is bogus, i kept trying NOT to switch and i could log in one day and i think i did it by accident on a different computer…anyone out there have any advice on how to just go back to the OLD MSN HOTMAIL.
September 13th, 2007 10:22
I want to switch back to the old homail but the option to switch back is no longer there.
I am not able to open my hotmail on certain computers and I don;t know why. But I know this happened after I have switched over to the new Hotmail Live.
September 12th, 2007 22:54
I lost all of my emails and contacts when it auto upgraded me to Hotmail Live. There is no customer service to speak to either. I have now closed both of my Hotmail accounts. Gmail is what I use for now.
September 12th, 2007 17:58
fk windows live its a disgrace!!
September 12th, 2007 10:35
same issue, want to switch back to old reliable version of HOTMAIL… and get rid of this crappy Windows Live – There is no switch back to classic hotmail option! WHY!?!?!?! HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!
i hate this new windows live BS.
September 11th, 2007 17:06
I face a problem when i tried to switch back to msn hotmail…There is no switch back option
September 3rd, 2007 01:53
new hotmail is a devil for old users like me who use dial up and lower versions of windows……..i haven’t understood what is this live actulally means HOTMAIL MEMBERS GIVE US OLD USERS OUR OLD HOTMAIL INBOX
September 1st, 2007 15:27
ok, i know not many people are using dial up, but the old MSN Hotmail is WAY faster than the new Classic Hotmail. iknow, iknow, with broadband who cares, but one day you NEED to check your email via old modem, you’d really really want mSN Hotmail
August 20th, 2007 05:57
Actually, it is still there, but i belive only for people who have used MSN Hotmail (not live).
I switched and it was really buggy, i went into options and it was there.
Please clarify, Davo
August 19th, 2007 18:28
well,
I also face the same problem with this new version
clicking the delete button won’t work
waste of time nonsense
August 19th, 2007 11:34
i can’t stand the live version it sucks
August 18th, 2007 18:42
I got so fed up with this new bullshit that i switched websites, as well as e-mail accounts. My new site ( EXCITE.COM) has absolute awesome capabilities, and my e-mail account is nearly 3 times the msn hotmail capacity. It only takes a couple of easy minutes to set up your account, which is free, and you even get unlimited actual person-to-person support if ever you are stumped by anything. As much as i hated to leave msn, it was time to move on to a site where my emails were not fucked with, and i say that VERY openly. Fuck with me, and i can handle it, but fuck with my personal emails, which is my only connection to my family, and you over step the ultimate line. In my exact words to msn and all of your loyal supporters….fuck off asswipes! and if ya wanna report me, go for it, just dont send me an email telling me cause i’ll just delete it, you shit bags! fuck off msn! fuck off!!!!
August 18th, 2007 03:11
This new interface is a nightmare!!!!!!!
August 16th, 2007 15:20
Well now, ya really screwed up this time fellas! just tried your little live hotmail, and now i cannot even access my account. Seems to me, in good standing, someone outta kick your asses clear to hell and back for even creating such worthless piece of trash! What the hell were you folks thinking?! Anyhow, leave it to the kids to screw up something that once worked just fine! Damn it!!!
August 16th, 2007 04:45
Easy…Use Yahoo or Google…
August 15th, 2007 22:56
you got to be kidding! you call live hotmail good?! my advice…click on it, then push the delete button, then repeat again to make sure its gone! it is absolutely a waste of our time and money! SHAME ON YOU FOR CREATING IT!!!
August 15th, 2007 13:53
hello i hate this new hotmail because i have just created a new account and it put me on windows live hotmail .
can some 1 please help me thanks
August 12th, 2007 05:03
I feel bad for everyone who has even attempted to use this new live version. It SUCKS! I can’t get to my mail either and I am more than a little ticked off as I had mailed at least 20 resumes using my hotmail account just the day before it changed. If you have messenger it will show you your messages, unfortunately you cant access them! I have sent help messages over and over, deleted and restarted every Windows program on my computer and there is simply no way to access my hotmail account again. I vote with you marina lets all leave hotmail and go to yahoo…..its easy and RELIABLE!
August 9th, 2007 10:31
I am a user of the full version of hotmail…
WHAT A RIPOFF!!! Changing back to msn hotmail isnt an option, and I hate the new version so much I am willing to create a new email address just so I dont have to spend one more day using the so called new and improved rubbish.
August 4th, 2007 13:39
i have swithed to windows live. The storage has increased to 2 GB. unfortunately, the windows live interface is not showing. This means that i can not take advantage of the new features of the newer version. Can this be rectified, and how
August 4th, 2007 10:26
PLZ HELP ! I HATE THE NEW HOTMAIL AND WHEN I CLICK THE OPTIONS BUTTON, IT DOESNT SHOW SWITCH BACK TO MSN HOTMAIL! I AM SOOO FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW! HELLPPPPP PLZ!!!!
August 3rd, 2007 14:55
Hi,
My grandmother has started using the internet, and we set up a hotmail account for her so she could ta;lk to relies overseas via email.Somehow she has managed to get into the new windows live hotmail and i cant change her back.last night i got so frustrated i changed my msn hotmail to the new live hotmail and went to options and there was the link to change back,so i did….but for some reason this link isnt available for my grandmother,i have tried so many different things and im at my wits end.If she originally had msn hotmail why cant she change back now?why is the link in mine and not hers?
August 3rd, 2007 05:29
Just read your reply, rather a rude comment, , because I haven’t just “said it.”As you have implied.(Where did I say it???
August 3rd, 2007 05:25
I am an elderly user, I have only been able to get Live Hotmail once, which I did not like. After the first time just a blank page. Therefore I cannot follow the instructions given to revert back to Classic Hotmail, I am almost in tears trying to get back.I have messages to send and read, but cannot do either,WHY make life so complicated???
July 28th, 2007 09:24
Help!!! Ever since I switched the new hotmail I can no longer even get in. I have had the same email address since public school, and I am in my twenties now! I am devastated…
July 22nd, 2007 01:09
Vanguard I’m not sure if you’re right because I have several hotmail accounts, and at one account I don’t see the “switch to old version” anywhere in the options, while another does. What’s the explanation too that?
July 20th, 2007 02:40
Nope, the option to switch back to MSN Hotmail is now gone. You can switch between full and classic views *within* Windows Live Hotmail but you can’t get back anymore to the MSN Hotmail account. Even accounts that got grandfathered in back on Nov 2004 when Microsoft dropped WebDAV support for free Hotmail accounts cannot get back to the MSN Hotmail account. The result is that you can no longer use Outlook [Express] to access free Hotmail accounts if you switched or signed up to Windows Live Hotmail.
July 10th, 2007 13:34
But I don’t see “switch to old version” anywhere in the options. Then how am i gonna change it back to old version? I’m really sick of the windows live. it keeps bothering me. I just prefer the old version.
July 4th, 2007 12:09
This is a lot of irritating rubbbish.I hate it.
June 25th, 2007 19:19
u r killing ur self by this website.forget this website it is bullshit
June 25th, 2007 19:16
This is a bad website which is worst than anything.when a mail come u can’t read it.it is small.size-1.4 of the letters.who ever is installing it i reccomend you to never install this.
Regards
Rachita Singh

May 27th, 2007 23:49
A friend of mine has swithed to windows live. The storage has increased to 2 GB. unfortunately, the windows live interface is not showing. This means that he can not take advantage of the new features of the newer version. Can this be rectified, and how?
