AMD Announces Phenom Processors for FASN8 Platform
AMD has announced its upcoming AMD Phenom processor family, come labeled as Phenom X2 (dual core) and Phenom X4 (quad core) processors, the part of AMD enthusiast platform, codenamed “FASN8″, and pronounced as “fascinate”. AMD claims that the new Phenom chips can deliver the ultimate visual experience, especially when paired with AMD’s new DirectX 10 ATI Radeon HD 2000 series.
The latest AMD Phenom processors features an AMD’s Direct Connect Architecture which distinguish itself from Intel’s processor, designed to improve memory and bandwidth by directly connecting the memory and I/O to the CPU. In addition, AMD said that the Phenom quad-core processors are “the industry’s only true quad-core client processors.” Current Analysis analyst Toni Duboise explained that “previous quad-cores put together two dual-cores, while the Phenom quad-cores are designed with four separate cores. ”
AMD said its Phenom processors would be compatible with a wide range of solutions, including motherboard and chipset partners ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI and NVIDIA. Besides, AMD expects true quad-core and dual-core AMD Phenom-based desktop systems to ship in the second half of 2007.

looking at the phenom benchmarks out on the internet, and one week till the release of the phenom processors, the results aren’t that competitive, but hope it’ll give a good race with intel quad core after a long silance.
