Prior to Windows Vista, CACLS (Change Access Control Lists) is used to manage to complicated NTFS permissions, complement the Folder Options’ Security tab which offers an easy way to make minor permissions tweaks. In Windows Vista, CACLS which has drawback of difficult to use to set inherited permissions on a folder is been deprecated and been replaced with iCACLS. iCACLS expands the capabilities of CACLS to be able to display, modify, backup or restore contents of discretionary ACLs for files and directories. iCACLS command line utility also able to show and set mandatory labels of an object for interaction with WIC (Windows Integrity Control) which most noticeable in the Internet Explorer Protected Mode which automatically Low integrity to Internet objects to protect the operating system from malicious web content in Internet Explorer.

Workaround to Run eMule in Windows Vista

eMule is a popular peer-to-peer (p2p) file sharing application in Windows platform for eDonkey and Kad networks. Due to tighten security and permission control in Windows Vista, coupled with new virtualization system, although eMule can install properly in Vista, eMule users may run into some problems such as unable to find finished downloaded incoming files, low ID, slow download speed, no minimize to tray button, downloads stuck incomplete at 99% and the famous “EventID 4226: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts” in Event Viewer error. Here’s a few tricks to avoid all these problems.

ICQ 6 Free Download

ICQI am not sure if anybody out there still using, or even still remember ICQ. ICQ, an oronym on the phrase “I seek you”, was one of the earliest available instant messaging protocol and program, available since 1996. Many people may have grown up together with just ICQ in their memory. But it seems like more and more Internet users switch to using Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger (previously MSN Messenger) and Skype. This phenomena can be anticipated, as ICQ hasn’t gone through major upgrade since the release of ICQ Lite or ICQ 4. Worse, ICQ Lite series up to version 5.1 comes with useless Xtraz center.

Acer Battery Recall for TravelMate and Aspires series

Acer, a Taiwanese PC makers announced a recall on laptop battery manufactured by Sony recently. This is followed by a major recall from other PC makers such as Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba and Apple last year, after confirmed by Sony that some batches of the Lithium-ion battery manufactured could cause overheat and potentially fire hazard. Acer plans to recall a total of 27000 defective battery pack following this announcement. More than 9.6 million laptop batteries have been recalled up to date.

Sony CyberShot DSC-S800 6x Optical Zoom Compact Camera

Sony, a Japan consumer electronics giant, has just raised the bar with its 8.1-megapixel compact point and shoot Cyber-shot DSC-S800 digital camera. Sony’s latest Cyber-shot DSC-S800 features an 8.1-megapixel Super HAD CCD, high sensitivity ISO of up to 1250, metallic frame (backside snapped after the break), 2.5-inch (230k dots) LCD monitor, one-touch direct playback mode and 54MB of on-board memory (internal memory).
