Well what are the alternatives? Google has had the “don’t be evil” company motto almost since its beginning and they didn’t really go against that motto very often (or at least they were caught significantly less than almost all competitors).
Should I take my business and go to companies that already have proven that they ARE evil and that they don’t give a rats ass about my privacy? like Yahoo!, AOL, Microsoft?
This is the Internet and a little bit of healthy paranoia is usually a good thing. But it’s not that I subscribe to a free service for live. I’ll use the internet search that usually gives me the best results (for me, currently, Google) I use the free e-mail service that gives me the best set of features (currently Google) but as long as a competitor comes along that does things, there is not much that will keep me there.
