I disable via a very well hidden option. Easiest way to get there is Control Panel > Welcome Screen > Moar details > Advanced system settings (In the left bar of the screen).

Jump on the performance settings and sift through the options and unclick “Enable Transparent Glass”

Only problem with my method is after 1 restart, my Vista decides to put on the rather fugly Windows Aero Basic.

    Windows Vista is retarded.

I just disabled the transparency capability of my Windows 7 Ultimate and I’m so glad that it resolved the flickering issue. <

Just disabling transparency alone won’t release the memory allocated by the DWM engine, only switching to Vista Basic or Windows Classic will do there. This is usually the solution for incompatibilities too, although Windows Vista should automatically reduce the quality to these modes if necessary to retain compatibility.
