How to Remove a Stuck CD from Optical Drives?

If a CD or DVD gets stuck in your computer’s optical drive, you can actually extract it by yourself without seeking help from a technician. What you need to do is to insert a straightened paper clip into a tiny hole that is located on the front of the drive, typically right next to the eject switch. Once you’ve inserted the clip, the stuck CD should be easily ejected.

I actually eject the cd this way when I buy a new notebook, before I ever turn the computer on for the 1st time, replace it with a bootable Acronis True Image CD Rescue CD to make an Image Backup of the drive as it was delivered from the factory on to an external drive. It’s not a trick, but very occasionally useful. Better than using a screwdriver as I’ve seen people do.

Stopped making the noise it was, but on my Dell PC, it’s making a different noise. This is the second one that’s gone bad.

Great tip. It worked for me in less than a minute and saved me a trip to the computer store to get it fixed.
