Zune Screen Cracks
Here’s an important tip for Microsoft Zune owners: don’t let your Zune charge overnight!
According to Engadget, Microsoft’s customer support center has received a flood of angry phone calls from Zune owners. For some reason if you let your Zune change for an extended period of time the screen will crack. A recent post on Mac Daily News conjectures that the issue is with the lithium ion battery located directly behind the Zune’s screen. When the battery gets too hot it expands and cracks the screen.

You’d think that Microsoft would consider this issue a major design flaw and offer to replace the cracked screens. So far there hasn’t been an official statement from Microsoft yet and unfortunately cracked screens are not currently covered under the Zune’s warranty. So where does that leave Zune owners with busted screens? They can either wait for Microsoft to address this issue or pull out their wallet and have a 3rd party like iPodMods repair their cracked Zune screen.
With all the screen scratching and battery life complaints about the iPod, it’s nice to see the Zune having a little trouble too.

Dear mr. bullshit up above. I am one who can verify what is going on. In fact once my phone starts working again I can even post a PICTURE online of it. My zune cracked. It does produce that much heat..is it unbelievable yes? But so was the titanic. I mean talk about a huge piece of SHIP. And this zune is a piece of SHIT! I hate microsoft. The zune was crap ever since I got it. So as far as I’m concerned you are full of BS. The zune sucks and it does overheat. suck my cock.

Mine cracked also. Managed to get a replacement screen under $50 from http://www.repairsuniverse.com and only took 10 minutes to fit myself following the video on their site. Its just like new, and so far i’ve managed not to crack again!

I’ve had 30gig zune for almost 2 years now. It is one of those first ones that came out. I recently dropped it and the inside of my screen has cracked and the color on the left side is black. Can this be repaired?
May 29th, 2008 22:10
Hey Mr Bullshit, you are a complete jackass! The screen on the 30gig is covered by hard plastic…since you are too stupid to bother learning anything about what you are ranting about…LCD displays are made of glass, you jackass! And yes it does crack for whatever reason, you moron! Get a life asshole!

The lower end models of the zune have a “durable plastic” screen, however the 80G
has the “scatch resistant glass” screen.
So when you spend $250 for electronics, you would expect it to be a better piece of equipment.
The multiple posts over the last several months should have prompted the company to provide a solution.
The customer service department
1-877-438-9863
states that the warranty is void, but there are also no authorized repair technicians. So you can take your chances with somewhere like
pdasmart.com
for about $115

This story is utter bullshit. For one…..the screen is made of hard plastic. Though it is hard it is still flexible…plenty flexible enough to handle the expansion and contraction of the heat that a battery charging will produce. Even if the screen were made of glass the battery produces nowhere near the heat it would require to cause such damage. Glass cracks from a sudden change in extreme temperatures. even if the batter were to reach really high temps……it will not heat up fast enough to cause a crack. also…the comment about how it is nice for the zune to have troubles for a change shows the authors unprofessionalism and bias.

I still cant believe companies, especially a company like microsoft, would release products before testing them properly only to leave the comsumers victims of their stupid mistakes. I am comfiedently sure if they tested the zune properly, they would have easly found the problem.

oh dear…
I think everyone who has bought a Zune should sue Microsoft.
Apple got sued because of the Nano breaking so it’ sonly fair justice for Microsoft to be publicly humiliated in court over this.
ALL ZUNE OWNERS SUE MICROSOFT!
THEY HAVE BILLIONS OF $ – YOU DESERVE A SHARE OF THEIR ILL-GOTTEN MONEY.
