How to Reset or Change Microsoft Office 2007 Product License Key or Volume License Key (VLK)
You may need to alter or change Microsoft Office 2007 (aka 2007 Microsoft Office System programs and suites) product license key or volume license key (VLK) which also known as serial number or CD key. You can modify or change product key for 2007 Microsoft Office programs or suites by first uninstall or remove Microsoft Office and then reinstalling the business productivity suite. However, you can follow the following steps in order to reset and change the Microsoft Office 2007 product serial key without the need to uninstall or reinstall 2007 Office system suites.
Note: The following steps involve modification of registry key values, which may corrupt your Windows if done incorrectly. Backup registry first before performing the workaround.
- Close all Microsoft Office programs.
- Click on Start button, then click on Run.
- Type “regedit” (without quotes) in the Run text box, and click OK or press Enter.
- Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration
Inside, you will find another subkey that resembles the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{30120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
- Optional: Backup this registry branch by exporting the Registration subkey to a file, just in case the new product key does not work and you have to restore back the old product key. To export the registry, right click on the Registration subkey and click on Export, and follow the on-screen prompt to enter a file name for the registry file and choose a location to store it.
- Under the Registration subkey, there may be several Globally Unique Identifiers (GUID) subkey that contain a combination of alphanumeric characters. Each GUID is specific to a program that is installed on your computer.
If you find additional subkeys that reference Microsoft 12.0 registration, then click and open each GUID subkey to view and identify the Office product version by the ProductName registry entry in the right pane. For example:
ProductName=Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007
- After you find the GUID subkey that contains your Office product or program which you want to remove the existing product license key or registration details, delete the following registry entries by right clicking on the registry entry in the GUID subkey, click Delete, and then click Yes:
• DigitalProductID
• ProductID - Exit Registry Editor.
- Run or open an Office application program, such as Microsoft Word or Excel or Outlook. Office 2007 will prompt you to enter a new 25-character product key.
- Type in the valid and genuine product key, and then click OK.
- Then when prompted to choose your preferred type of Microsoft Office 2007 installation, press on “Install Now”.
- Microsoft Office 2007 will be updated with new product CD key or volume license key, and ready for activation (if it’s a non-VLK serial) or use.
Note: If you’re having problem with your new Office 2007 product key, simply double click on the backup registry .reg file created at the optional step above to restore the registry settings of the Registration subkey so that the original value can be imported back to the registry.
You may need to reset to change Office 2007 product key with the above steps if you don’t want to uninstall or reinstall Microsoft Office 2007 again in many scenarios, such as you have just bought a retail version of Office 2007, or receive Office 2007 as a gift, or win MS Office 2007 as a prize, or just get your MSN product key for Office 2007, or having problem with activation process online or via phone, or unable to step-up or convert evaluation copy of Office 2007 to full-use version, or having problem with Office Genuine Advantage (OG) validation.
On the other hand, if you manage to find a valid and genuine volume license key or VLK, you can change the product key of Microsoft Office 2007 with the VLK serial in order to bypass the Office 2007 activation process (as Office 2007 still using WPA 1.0 where corporate users need not to activate), without the need of crack or hack for Office 2007, for full use for unlimited period as long as you’re not caught by OGA.

Pick your Country.
Fill all of the empty boxes with 000000’s (ZERO’s) so it looks like 000000-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000- and so on…
Don’t worry just press the ZERO key until it will be full
5. Click Activate. Enjoy a Lifetime Office 2007

BUT!!! Everything works… but sometimes there will be a message on the screen (only using Outlook) This THIS COPY OF MICROSOFT OFFICE HAS NOT BEEN ACTIVATED! Registry Editor cannot be disabled, simply go Start > Run > Regedit
If you cannot get to Regedit, your computer is in serious trouble.

Saving is based on system hardware specifcally RAM and Hard Disk Drive speed.
It maybe worthwhile updating thse.
You can also “clean” your computer by; getting rid of the cookies, internet catche, defragging youe computer, cleaning the interior physically for dust (will help cool it), deleting un-neeeded files.

Try loading into safe mode and replacing it there.
To do this hit F8 after BIOS has completed and you will have the option to enter safe mode.
Failing this, load up the task manager and disable all microsoft office process, you can also look at the Start > Run > MSConfig
… to see if there is anything there.

I downloaded MS office 2007 professional version 60 trial version with a product key provided by microsoft and installed it on my computer. Then,I came to know a trick which could convert this free trial version into a permanent version. Trick was as follows:
1.Click on Start button, then click on Run.

It worked for couple of days but after a few days it ceased working.Now I can not even uninstall MS office because of those two filed I had deleted. I tried to download free trial version again and setup from the beginning but it does not work either because of the same reason.

Thanks, worked for me! I accidentaly used the wrong key so office didnt work on my terminal server. I deleted the reg keys and restarted office, entered the new key, and it works like a charm now.

I used this, and it worked without a flaw.
However, after about a month or so, it stopped working. I know this was after the trial version SHOULD have expired, because I opened the program much more than 25 times. Then, it led to the eventual yet innevitable Blue Screen of Death. Had to completely reset my computer. Grr.

I had the trial version OFFICE PRO 2007 . followed the 12 steps on the top THIS of page , then followed tomtoms rules (THOUGH THE 0000 PART IN THE NUMBERS AREA THAT DIDNT FLY WOULDNT ALLOW IT) and the prompts stopped poping up. is this it ? does this mean ive got it for good?
there is just one thing; office accounting 2008 prompt keeps comming up asking for activation key and doent allow me to alter serial. is this right? we dont get this program , can i uninstall or this should I?
last thing windows is trying to update with 29 secruity updates including sevice pack(SP1).
should i allow the updates?

Hey all! i did the first step where you have to delete the serial entry with regedit. then i deleted the product name product id, and digital id. along with trail type. from the registry folder. And now whenever i open my microsoft word, it turns on all fine, but it only functions partially. its like a m still on the trial version, but no dialog boxes pop out any more.. if anyone can help me, that would be awesome!!

Do this it Works with ur 60 days trial MS ofice 2007
First of all make sure that u install Office 2007 without any Serial Number… If u have already installed it with a serial number then follow these instructions…..
1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.
2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
3. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration
Note You may also find another subkey that resembles the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{91120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
4. If you find additional subkeys that reference Microsoft 12.0 registration, open each subkey, and then identify the product by the ProductName entry.
For example: ProductName=Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007
5. When you find the subkey for the product from which you want to remove the existing product license key, delete the following entries:
* DigitalProductID
* ProductID
6. Exit Registry Editor.
After u are finished with this…
1. Go to start and Click Run…
2. In the run box type… “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\Proof.en”
3. You should now see a file named Proof.XML
4. Right click the file and select open with notepad.
5. After opening the file with notepad scroll down to the the bottom.
6. You should see lines like this…

8. Just change the line AlwaysInstalled with neverInstalled retaining the quotes…
9. Save the file and u are ready to go…
10. Now just open Word and it should not ask you for any activation…
11. Make sure you do not do any kind of update…

I figured out how to get the confirmation code, click activate by phone, call the number and give them the install code provided on the page. I went through the automated system and Microsoft coughed up the confirmation code. I was using the Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 trial.

Hello Jenn. You get the error because a office update have replaced mso.dll with another one (newer). You can resolve the issue by replacing mso.dll again. Locate mso.dll and check the file version (right click, properties). If it’s 12.0.6213.1000, use the file downloadable from the second link i provided in post 253. Otherwise, if it’s 12.0.6320.5000, get the patched file from post 600.

Please run setup to install the application.” Well I uninstalled it, deleted registry files and such then reinstalled using steps in post 253, it worked perfectly. (Thank you!) However when i shut pc down and restarted it later and tried to use office I got the same error again. I am extremly frustrated because i need this to be able to do my online classes. I used your instructions in post 253 back in March and it was perfect. However, just recently (after working fine all this time) Office no longer works at all… When I open one of the programs, an error box pops up that says:
“Microsoft Office Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application.” And then ‘OK’ which closes the program.

If I understand well proof.xml editing is needed only when turning already installed trial to full version.
I installed clean Ultimate and I did not find any registry entries in office registration.
Genuine test informed me it is not genuine. So I and replaced OGACheckControl.dll and made Genuine test happy.
Then I replaced MSO.dll and did the activation through telephone and used 0 for all fields(see 253.
Then I updated Office SP1 and used your MSO.dll. Then I run Windows update and install more Office updates without any troubles and working OK.
For the all time I have not changed anything in proof.xml file…

Most of the vista user they sure having some problem in saving the proof.xml… its easy.. save this edited proof.xml in desktop.
then copy it go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\Proof.en\ and paste it. it will ask for the permission to replace it. hit yes then ta-da.. haha… enjoy~ ^_^ got it figured it out after tried 4 times.

Ok guys refer to post 19, to crack serial and confirmation for all office home and student 2007 all. Well when you get to the the part where you need to edit the proof.en file and it doesnt let you cause it says its in use or access denied or whatever well do this edit it do as post 19 says “neverinstalled” ect.. and save it as proof1 to desktop, then move it to the folder post 19 refers too, delete the proof one and rename the one you’ve just created to proof. Vualahhh. Hello Dan. Unfortunately some of the serials on #253 are trial serials. You probably used one of them. To resolve the issue you have to follow two steps:
1. apply the procedure described on this article (regedit, DigitalProductID, ProductID, etc.) to change your serial with a non-trial one (see the .txt file from the file downloadable from #411 and take a serial for your edition)
2. activate office (mso.dll, 000000 000000…).
PS: remember that if you (or automatic updates) install sp1 you will have to replace mso.dll again with the sp1 patched one.

I am having problems with getting office pro 2007 to work. I followed the directions and its not working. I put in some of the keys listed in #253 and some said me to convert and some asked for a confiration code. Which I tried typing all 0000 and it said it was incorrect. I get the whole thing to work just fine, however, although this issue may be completly unrelated, I am having issues now that it will say that thr program has stopped working and I have the option to close the application or check online for a sloution. From reading other forums it sounds like this may be a problem with the printer driver but I wanted to see if this problem was directly related to the mso.dll that is being replaced in the office12 folder or not. Any advice would be very helpful, right now, when it does it, which is about every 2-3 I have to uninstall the enitre thing then I reinstall it, problem has happened since SP1 was installed and yes I do have the proper sp1 mso.dll copied where it needs to be.

jordan, you should get updates (if not, try to search on emule for the last office genuine advantage patch), but if you want templates, they won’t be downloaded directly from office because it’s not genuine, so templates must be downloaded from the office online website.

i understand tomtom is the authority here regarding office 2007… i followed 19, granted myself permissions and all, but now, not only does my office (home @ student, 60 day trial) say “modification is not allowed because the selection is locked”, but when i want to use one of your serials and go to activation, the keys won’t work and i can’t even get to the activation screen!

Hello x. That’s normal. Word version number is updated by almost each update and mso.dll is updated only by service packs. In fact the most recent mso.dll is sp1 one (version 12.0.6213.1000). My word option panel says:

thank you once again. one more quick question. i went ahead and updated, everything, sp1 and all available updates and everything seems ok. i did notice that when i checked out word, the version number for word and the mso file differed. will this cause a problem down the road? that is, will each update to word (as an example) alter the version number? then, if that is the case, does the mso file need to exactly match the version number, or is it only updated for major updates, like a service pack?

For x. I regularly receive updates with no problem. If you (or office update) install sp1 you have just to replace the mso.dll with the sp1 patched one and i suggest to get sp1. just to verify, can the suite be updated? that is, i noticed you mentioned sp1.
if i go to sp1, then is all that is needed is the MSOsp1 file?
do you suggest going to sp1?
lastly, using your own technique, have you had ultimate installed these months without issue?

Damn. It does look like Microsoft is onto non-genuine copies of Office.
Oh well, things have been running fine apart from that small hiccup, and yes I believe I can download templates directly from their website, so it’s only a minor inconvenience.
I’m pretty sure this copy of Office still passes the online OGA thing, although I don’t want to try and install those plugins to check anymore.

Provocoutur, search oga patches on emule or google for your oga version. You can also download a oga patch from the link i provided in comment 382 or a more recent patch from this page. But you cannot find genuine product keys…

Provocoutur, previous versions of oga use just ogacheckcontrol.dll, so the patch is only a patched version of that file (but i’m not using the oga patch because my office is recognized as genuine from ms website). Today, searching through the windows\system32 folder, i found two additional files, ogaaddin.dll and ogaverify.exe. The oga version is 1.7.105.0. I suppose you have to look at the version number of your oga plugin and searching for a patch for that version.

Hi Provocoutur. I tried to download templates from word 2007 but it says it’s counterfeit (like yours). That’s why our offices are not really genuine. However i managed to get templates from the office website. Maybe using a patched version of the office genuine advantage (ogacheckcontrol.dll, etc.) could allow getting templates directly from office applications…

Ahh help. I just got my laptop and I’m using Vista, trying to work MS Ultimate 2007.
Under OFFICE12, I do not have MSO.dll to replace. All that’s in there is …
- msoshext.dll
- msoxev.dll
- msoxmlmf.dll
And under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\ there is no Registration folder for me.
Now what? :S

For Victoria. Unfortunately we are not able to calculate the confirmation code, so to activate office you have to download the file cited on comment #411 or follow the simple instructions of comment #253 and following.
For kent. Well, once you’ve found HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{91120000-0031-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} in the registry editor look at the right part of the window and you’ll see a list of keys and values, DigitalProductID and ProductID are there. But just changing the product id won’t make your office activated. To activate it see post #253 and #411.

martin, i suppose you have a trial version of the home and student edition (to verify follow instructions on this page).
If so, you can try to activate office by following the method in the file i linked in post #411 (it describes the same procedure of #253, but with working serials). Getting updates is not guaranteed.

Hi Patchy Problem, the link works and the file isn’t corrupted. Perhaps you have some download manager enabled, if so disable it. I also uploaded mso.dll’s to megaupload, you can try to download from there (see link in post 411).

ok, i did this yesterday and now wish i had not.
i want to uninstall all my ms office 07 components and start over again. i have now a “REAL” ms office 07 edition from bestbuy. when i got to contorl panel / remove programs, it says:
“setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not available. Run setup again from the original source disc or download location.”

Hi SanSan. Just service packs screw up office activation because they overwrite mso.dll with a new one. But don’t worry, there’s patched mso.dll for sp1 (see #253). So, if you install sp1 update, simply replace mso.dll again with the patched one.

loophole, i suppose that there could be three causes:
- you did not install sp1 and replaced mso.dll with the sp1 patched one => you resolve by replacing again with the rtm mso.dll patched file
- you used the proof.xml-hack => resolve by changing back “NeverInstalled” to “AlwaysInstalled” in proof.xml
- you installed office with a trial key => resolve by removing the current key and replacing with a non-trial one (see the steps provided in this article and use a key provided in the file of comment 411)

The problem is that I’m getting notification “This modification is not allowed because the selection is locked!”. I had to write back to you again because it finally worked! Thank you so much.
I couldn’t find what was using the mso.dll so i started closing all the stuff in the systray, one at a time. After I closed one, I tried the delete. Finally, after closing about 8 items, the delete worked and i was able to move your mso.dll in. Then I did the phone activation with the 0’s and when I went back into Outlook all was fine.
Now all I have to do is figure out how I’m putting my blackberry on there and uploading some other contact stuff I have to add in.

I downloaded the zip file but when I attempt to erase the original mso.dll I keep getting a message that says:
Cannot delete MSO: It is being used by another person or program. Close nay programs that might be using the file and try again.
I also tried drag and drop and go the message:
Cannot move MSO: A file with the name you specified already exists. Specify a different file name.
Do you have any other suggestions or might you know what I’m doing wrong?

I installed Office 2007 onto my computer wish I never did. I’ve entered a 25-character product key into Outlook 2007 and still find the vital items ‘grayed’. My intention was to try to export my data out and then re-install Outlook 2003 so I could get on with my work.
I thought entering the key would resolve this ‘gray’ issue, but it didn’t. Any help you could offer would be very appreciated. At this point I can’t make calendar entries or anything else that I need. Thanks.

Same problem as Decal.
I have a pre-installed version of Office Pro 2007.
I follow the 12 steps of the article until Step 9. But, when I enter any of the keys u give, I get the message “The key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and then retype it”. And I cannot continue.
Should I uninstall this pre-installed version ? And install the Trial version from the Microsoft website ?

ok ppl… here’s a way that really worked for me and i rele appreciate da person who had published it in another site… well most of the tym wen u guys activate office 2007 student and home version using ddy79-433jv-2rxgx-mqfqp-pfdh8 den again it will ask for another activation either through internet or via phone… here a simple way to by pass all that and activate your copy…
after activating using the above key close all office applications.. then download this MSO.DLL file from this link http://rs271.rapidshare.com/files/98467704/MSO_sp1.zip
then copy the MSO.DLL file to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE12
location replacing the original MSO.DLL file there… After that start any office application and when prompted to activate chose via telephone.. Then fill all the code fields with 0s.

Paulina, only microsoft knows the phone activation code! If you installed project 2007 with a valid non-trial product key, yoy can try to activate it by following post #253’s steps.

Hi Christian. If you got something modified (e.g. proof.xml, mso.dll, windows registry, etc.) try to restore those elements before uninstalling. Change back “NeverInstalled” to “AlwaysInstalled” in proof.xml and use the original mso.dll:
- if you use RTM version: go to C:\MSOCache\All Users, then look for your office product folder and extract mso.dll from the mail .cab file, for example if you have office 2007 ultimate go to C:\MSOCache\All Users\{91120000-002E-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C and extract mso.dll from UltrWW.cab
- if you use SP1 version: try to reinstall sp1 (the installer should restore the original sp1 mso.dll)
Replace the patched mso.dll with the original one.
Then reboot and retry to uninstall office 2007.
If this does not work, try to read this how to.

hey all, I’d initially like to thank everyone who went out of their to be charitable enough to help us small folk acquire microsoft office 2007. After spending hours upon hours of clicking through and deleting different things, as well as trying different activation keys, I’ve decided: Fuck microsoft 2007 – 2003 works just as well. I tried activating my microsoft 2007 following many of the steps provided by vk, domma, dark ninja, all of which worked temporarily. it’s gotten to the point where microsoft word is completely locked up. So, I tried uninstalling it, but I guess from how badly I’ve butchered it, when i try to uninstall it, a box pops up saying that the files have been corrupted to where it can’t uninstall or continue. So i don’t know what to do. I’ve never encountered this before. i’ve given up altogether on 2007, and have decided to revert to 2003. If anyone could help me to delete 2007, i would be very grateful.
The moral of the story is: microsoft programs are getting worse and more volatile…
I would appreciate a direct email, but posting on here would be just as good.

Tomtom, I had done the steps of activating my Microsoft Office 2007 on my new Vista laptop following the steps of editing the proof.xml and entering a serial. It was working perfectly for a couple days, but now I am not able to do type anything in any Office programs. I let my sister use my laptop and I’m thinking she might have ran some kind of update (my best guess).
When I go into the registry to see if I can delete the key by going to to the Registration key in the folder directed, there is no DigitalProductID or ProductID key do you have an idea of what is going on here? Thanks

Well I’ve tried everything but still can’t get my MO to pass the validation test. I think it’s because my MO is professional, but either way I give up. I’m just going to buy the software from my University’s website while it’s on sell. $199 doesn’t seem so bad; it’s actually a lot better than 300-400 dollars. Thanks Tomtom for everything. Hi guys!!! I’ve just uploaded to rapidshare a single zip file containing the #253’s procedure (with correct non-trial product keys for every edition) and both rtm and sp1 patched mso.dll’s. You can download it from THIS LINK.
For nagy and loes. Use the linked file.
For Nicky. Microsoft checks some files (i don’t know what) and (i think) the windows registry by using the ogacheckcontrol.dll. A patched ogacheckcontrol.dll should give a positive response even office is not genuine. The activex is the application which copies the ogacheckcontrol.dll into the windows\system32 folder and installs the internet explorer plugin for checking whether office is genuine or not.
For brandilostjami. I’m sorry you haven’t resolved the problem yet. You cannot replace the mso.dll because of the old one is used by some windows process. Am i right? I only can suggest you to try these 3 ways:
- try the activation procedure again
or
- look for an application that let you to know which process uses mso.dll, so that you can stop it from task manager and then replace mso.dll
or
- format your pc and install windows, install office and try to activate (before installing others application).

Hey TOMTOM it’s me again. I’m still trying to validate my Microsoft Office Pro 2007, but first I have some questions for you. First, when Microsoft is checking to see if your software is genuine, which file to they check? Is it the MSO file,the OGAcheckcontrol or another one? Also before validation when they ask to download that activeX, does it affect your Software afterwards? I’m asking because, I’m trying to search for a specific file on piratebay. Hello Hernán! My english is strange, too. I’m italian. I tested #253’s procedure on my office 2007 ultimate italian language, but the method works for all languages (also spanish). That’s why mso.dll is the same file for all language version (it’s language independent).

I agree with ‘jeez’ with respect that there are a lot of solutions for an only problem: execute ‘my’ ms-office. The problem with every solution is that it does not run with ‘every’ one of the versions of ms-office. Including yours: see that you must refere to a second post: main is 253 and sometimes 258 is refered (350), and always you must say a different serial (404,337+328).

Problem resolved!
What I did was:
1)Installed my edition
2)Used one of the serial codes that you also posted, for my edition
3)Replaced mso.dll
4)But when started an office application the phone activation cannot be selected so I exited the application and
4)Followed the 12 steps in this page.(when prompted to enter a product key which is at step no. 9, I used the same serial code)
5)Did steps 3-5 of your post #253

Now I’ll be willing to help others, like you do, I’ll be redirecting them to your post #253 so that it’ll be still credited to you…

Hello deadlyalive22. Did you install office with a NON-trial product key? If not, you should first replace the current trial product with a non-trial one by following the 12 steps of this article. Then try to activate using the post #253’s method.

I think that the automatic updates may have updated your Office to SP1. Check if this is the case. If it is, you should replace the MSO.dll file as in post #253, making sure you use the one specific to SP1.

I think because of that, it says “not install for current user” because of my MSO file (I used the not sp1 link). Megan, you installed office 2007 and replaced the mso.dll from the first link i provided in post #253. That’s right! Well, if a day you will install service pack 1 (sp1) for office 2007 (it’s optional), you will have to replace the mso.dll again, using the second link. Is it clear now?

Post #19 works great! If you have Vista, like myself, after exiting the registry, make sure you right click the folder that the proof.xml file is in (Office Setup Controller), and make it Read Only. This will mean that when you edit the text to read “NeverInstalled”, it will save to that location with no problems.
Woeked absolutely fine with me and now I have a trial free Microsoft Office.

I think that tomtom’s method would work for everyone if they got rid of the ‘neverinstalled’ hack thing and uninstalled Office 2007 totally, then reinstalled a clean copy.
Been working fine for me for the past few weeks. Again, heaps of thanks to tomtom.

“neverinstall” hack on trial verson WILL STILL expire and locks up your office after 25 uses. It’s what I did and tried to figure out for a whole month straight until I came across this post. You will still need to use a “correct” key and activate it to use office 07 free and clear.

Help I have an actual disk (not downloaded or what not) of Professional Plus 2007 but the serial that I have must have been passed around or something before I bought the disk. I bought it from my mom’s ex before they broke up, and now it doesn’t work…Serial number won’t even take in the installer now for some reason. This is the fix. Most people get this error because they ran Microsoft Repair or something to that effect. You have to re-replace the .dll you downloaded from Tom-tom again.
If you run the repair from microsoft, it replaces that dll.
that is what happened to me. Run as admin and all the microsoft articles did NOT help.

Hi, I can’t seem to get the #253 activation to work. I have followed all the instructions. When I open up Word it asks for the product key, I have Home and Student, so I enter the key from #258….it gives it a green check mark and then says it is “preparing to install”. Install is the only option I get…so let it install, it says it’s successful and then still doesn’t work. Never asks me for activation codes or anything…so I go into options and say activate, but it just repeats — product key, install, nothing.
Do I need the sp1 version or something??

I regularly receive the updates and installed the xps/pdf tool with no problem. Only service packs update the mso.dll file. We have the patched mso.dll for the original (rtm) and sp1 versions. If microsoft will release a new service pack (sp2), it replace the mso.dll with a new one and we’ll be prompted to activate office (…until a patched sp2-mso.dll is made!).

Hi TomTom et al. Well, I have the Office Standard 2007 Trial Version. I have tried everything mentioned here to get the full version. I tried the keys from post #253, & the couple that were accepted only ‘installed’ the Trial Version (again?).
My option for phone activation is grayed out in all of the applications. So, I had to choose the last option (not “online” option of course).
Now, I have gone ahead & downloaded Enterprise edition. I tried the key in #328, but it is not valid any longer. Any suggestions on where to go now?

Something weird just happened. When I went to http://www.office.mircosoft.com for an update, my Microsoft Office passed the test to check if my software is genuine; However, on Microsoft Word, it isn’t genuine. Am I missing something here? How can it pass on the above website, but now Microsoft word?

I just did everything you said step by step but still nothing. I even copy and paste all the files when it wouldn’t extract to the system32 location. Did extracting all the files have something to do with why my OGA isn’t working? Or should I have just extract the install.ba and mso file?
p.s When I extract the file and my wizard comes up, should I have change the location to windows32 or kept it under what the wizard have it on?

Would there be problems installing updates and add-ons (such as the Save in PDF addon), as installation might change some files? Seeing how there was a different MSO for original and SP1 installations, I wouldn’t want to risk it.
I was afraid the OGA plugin would’ve installed something that made Office 2007 useless, but luckily nothing has happened. I don’t have Windows Update on or updated any office things yet, in case some anti-counterfeit measures are taken.

Nicky, the crack from the first link (megashare) should work. You must run install.bat after extracting the files in a folder and then restart the pc. Did you do this?
Dhanu, THIS is the link for downloading enterprise edition trial. Install with this serial KGFVY-7733B-8WCK9-KTG64-BC7D8 that makes office enterprise full (not trial) and activated.
The same for me, dboi. Microsoft genuine website says my copy is genuine and i didn’t use the oga crack.

jami and Nicky, try these steps:
- if you changed “AlwaysInstalled” to “NeverInstalled” in the proof.xml file (located in C:\Programmi\File comuni\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\Proof.en) change back to “AlwaysInstalled”
- replace the mso.dll with the patched one (use the right link, THIS for rtm (non-sp1) or THIS for sp1), if the message “prepares to install” appears click cancel
- go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\OFFICE\DATA and cancel the files opa12.dat and the .bpc file (if they exist!)
- retry the activation method of post #253

tomtom is there some type of mso.dll restore?!! i have recently downloaded the trial version using the code posted by Matty in 266. then i downloaded the file from the link you posted above, deleted the mso.dll in commom files/microsoft shared/office 12 and repalced it with the rapid file. i then open office and it “prepares to install” and as i watch the office 12 folder the mso.dll file pops right back up! i have tried using the phone activation anyway but that doesnt work. i have 15 more times to do this (according to microsoft) can you please tell me whats up?!!!

It’s me again. I just got finished reinstalling my microsoft office professional 2007 and it still says the same message. I don’t get it. I remove everything associted with microsoft office, including MSO with no luck. Anybody have any other suggestions?

Nicky, you can install from your cd. If you have enterprise or professional plus use a vlk non-trial product key and then no need to activate. Otherwise use a non-trial key to install and apply the well known #253’s method to activate.

Perhaps I should have explained this earlier. Yes, I did use the proof.xml hack. The problem is that I am running Vista . I’m unable to reinstall Office 2007 because I had to take control of the permissions a certain way, specifically using cacls and takeown commands. However I do not know how to restore these commands to their default.

C-Nizzle, mso.dll is the same for all office 2007 editions and i use the one downloaded from rapishare. As i said to Jey in post #302, vlk serials (like KGFVY-7733B-8WCK9-KTG64-BC7D8) make office enterprise activated. No need to use patched mso.dll.

Well I agree that I don’t think that one bit would make the difference between virus and non, but by chance could you email me the mso.dll that you have for the non SP1 install of Enterprise? Also just a footnote, but the copy of Enterprise I got came from Microsoft as a trial version, I just plugged in the key I used from my previous post.

C-Nizzle and Nicky, i compared the original mso.dll and the patched one version rtm and did the comparison also for sp1 mso.dll’s. I did that at the command prompt with the command fc (file compare). In both versions i got that the two files has only 1 bit different…i suppose that changing just a bit in the original file cannot make it infected by a virus…Then i scanned the patched mso.dll’s with avast and no virus detected.

Guess I’ll wait for a bit with Vista SP1 then. I’ve been using the non SP1 mso.dll for a few days and haven’t seen any problems. Upgraded to Office SP1 and using the new mso.dll for that and it’s working fine as well.
It sounds like the error might have to do with the installation process? I haven’t received that error so far, and that’s with a few reboots. Scanned computer with AVG AV (I know it’s not the best out there) but didn’t find any viruses related to this.

dboi, you shouldn’t have any problems with Vista considering your SP1 upgrade for Office will not effect the Vista install for any reason. I would be careful of Vista SP1 anyways, simply because if you refer to all the hell that XP SP2 was on it’s first release, you might wanna wait until they work all the bugs out before you install SP1 for Vista.
Nicky, I don’t have any suggestions for another untainted mso.dll file unless someone has one that has been untainted. dboi, do a reboot and see if you have any of the problems that Nicky and I had, because everything works great until the first reboot. If not then it is possible we could use that mso.dll that is designed for Ultimate after SP1 has been installed.

Does anyone know if using Tomtom’s method, would there be problems if I updated my Vista to SP1? I’ve upgraded my Office Ultimate to SP1 with the patched MSO, and it seems to be working fine. Don’t want problems with an updated Vista though.

Just FYI Nicky and TomTom…I think that mso.dll file from rapidshare might have been tampered with and had a virus placed within it. I ran the hack with the the key provided by Zeus, M2QKF-KDQ4R-YHQKD-M4YYK-GPWVD that was in post 255, and then after the install replaced the dll file like was listed in post 253 and everything worked fantastic….until the first reboot.
Then I got the “Microsoft Office Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application.” This lead to the disassociation of almost all programs including the command prompt which would only open ascii garbage in wordpad. Also there were two files randomly placed on my system called “girls.doc” and “money.doc”.
If you know of a for sure, untainted mso.dll I will give it a shot, but just wanted to give a warning about this one.
Just another FYI, I do run clamwin AV realtime, and do regular SB, Adaware, and SpyShredder scans frequently and know that I did not have any infection until after this install and .dll change.

I have a prolem with my microsoft office professional 2007. When I updated my software, this window pops up that says “Microsoft Office Word has not been installed for the current user. Process:
Dropped in one of the trial keys. It then (after restart) asked for second “Full Version” key on upgrade, dropped in the one TomTom provided to Helen (#258) DDY79-433JV-2RXGX-MQFQP-PFDH8.
I then shut it down, swapped to the other MSO.DLL, restarted Office, and then selected “By Phone”, and dropped in all 0’s, and she is activated!
You might literally have to give up and do a FAQ/Walkthru for these other people. Tom, you are l33t, and pwnt MS Office for DAMN sure.

For john paul. The files exist. If you use a download manager (like getright, flashget, etc.) try to disable it before downloading from rapidshare.
For Laura. You don’t have to be a member. But remember that free users can download a limited number of files per day.
For Orion. Did you apply the proof.xml hack? If so, your proof.xml should contain these lines:
Well, rechange “NeverInstalled” to “AlwaysInstalled”, save the file and retry to activate.
For gyan. You first have to change your trial product key with a non-trial one. Follow the 12 steps explained on top of this page (use this non-trial product key M2QKF-KDQ4R-YHQKD-M4YYK-GPWVD). After that activate office with the method of answer 253.

Hi, i hope this help you all. I’d like to explain more deeply the activation method that i described in other posts. With that method i managed to really activate my copy of office 2007. I use the Ultimate edition, but think this procedure is able to activate all the other editions that require activation (Home and Student, Standard, Small Business, Professional, and – if a non-VLK product key is used – Professional Plus and Enterprise) since it uses a patched version of the file mso.dll (which is the same for all editions!). Well, you have to follow these simple steps:
1) if you haven’t installed office 2007 yet, install your edition using a proper non-trial product key (see the list below)
2) go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12 and replace the file mso.dll with THIS ONE (after extracting it from the zip file)
3) start an office application and choose the phone activation method
4) fill all the confirmation code fields with 0, that is:
A 000000
B 000000
C 000000
D 000000
E 000000
F 000000
G 000000
and complete the activation!!!
5) close and restart the office application
6) if you will install sp1 you must repeat step 2 using THIS patched mso.dll

Easiest way to get a working genuine office 2007 enterprise edition is as follws.
1. Download the enterprise edition from the net, either from microsoft website or any other website. Use google to get the links.
2. Enter the following key when asked during installation. V9MTG-3GX8P-D3Y4R-68BQ8-4Q8VD
3. Office will finish installation.
4. Open up any office application. during first run, it will ask you to activate product. Choose option 2, activate via phone.
5. in the nest screen you will see a installation code being displayed. Select the country you stay in from the drop down list and call the number shown in the screen. This process is fully automated.
6. select option 1 when asked for. Enter the installation code. you will get a message saying that this code has been activated more than the stipulated no of times. Dont worry. Choose option 1 again for a couple of times when asked and you will be given the confirmation code of 42 digits.
7. Enter the confirmation code in the space provided and press ok. Vola.., you have a genuine working copy of office.

i did the above procedure and removed the digitalproduct ID and product ID. it has worked for all the programs for quite some time. now, only outlook works — word, powerpoint, excel, etc will not work as they are “locked.” i use outlook more often than all of these.

Happy New Year to all! I’m new to all this. I have “Microsoft home and student ‘o7″ somewhere, but we are in the middle of a move -I don’t even have my desktop hooked up (thank God for laptops, which is new), but I truly need to access this product. On November 28th, my 12 year old son was diagnosed with Diabetes type 1, which requires injections a few times a day along with checking his blood sugar 8-10 times a day.
Well, I found an awesome excel program layout that I can use to record everything, which will then produce very nice reports for his Dr. Can anyone help me with a Product Key Code? Hi guys i just tried converting the microsoft office 2007 Trial to the Full version by the hack given above withought puttin in the key but it worked for 2 days and now it’s in compatibility mode i cant use most of the features can anyone help me on what to do? First of all make sure that u install Office 2007 without any Serial Number… If u have already installed it with a serial number then follow these instructions…..
1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.
2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
3. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration
Note You may also find another subkey that resembles the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{91120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
4. If you find additional subkeys that reference Microsoft 12.0 registration, open each subkey, and then identify the product by the ProductName entry.
For example: ProductName=Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007
5. When you find the subkey for the product from which you want to remove the existing product license key, delete the following entries:
* DigitalProductID
* ProductID
6. Exit Registry Editor.
After u are finished with this…
1. Go to start and Click Run…

4. Right click the file and select open with notepad.
5. After opening the file with notepad scroll down to the the bottom.

8. Just change the line AlwaysInstalled with neverInstalled retaining the quotes…

hello everybody…I’ll start saying “nobody is gonna give ya a real key for free”..BUT.. there’s a good way of having it working free.
jus download the program and install it…the first time the box appears asking for a product key, just put NEXT without putting any product key…after that run any office application, it will now ask you to put the key again…Hit the X (close) button, click “yes” and then “close”…it’s important not to put NEXT here…cos you’ll see “23 free times remaining” and after that your program will be useless… the only thing i hate is having to close that Product key everytime i open the program, but it really works… no product key and free program! have fun! =P

Ihave a valid key for office ultimate but as soon as it connects to microsoft it says it was used to many times. Is there a way around this?

I think we all want to know the product key for the Office Professional 2007 suite (available as a free 60 day trial) that will allow to work beyond the 60 days.
