I attended a Ready for a New Day Launch Tour 2007 event today at Birmingham, AL. (January 23, 2007).
The Launch 2007 event attendees were given a “Launch 2007 Resource Kit” as they leave at the end of the 4-hour sessions. Printed on the inside sleeve are the “product keys” for Office Professional 2007 and Office Groove 2007.
To get Office 2007 and Office Groove 2007 you have to go to the “Try the 2007 Microsoft Office System” web page where the Office 2007 free 60-day trials are.
You select and download the software there as if you are wanting to try out the software. You are given trial product keys but you ignore them since you are going to install them with the keys from the “Launch 2007 Resource Kit” instead.

Note I already had the Office Professional 2007 trial version installed. I used the key from the Resource Kit to convert it to a full version.

I’ve repeatedly tried to use the Office Professional 2007 key printed on the inside of my Launch 2007 Resource Kit, but the Product Key is invalid, even with the exact X12-30196.exe downloaded from the launch site ( http://www.launchtour2007.com/download/ ). I did not get the X13-40150.exe and I have no idea what it does, so maybe that’s my problem?
To me, it looks like Microsoft is trying to pull another fast one– the free Windows Vista Ultimate also provided for Launch attendees turned out to be the RC1 beta version (not even RC2 or RTM) *and* it expired at the end of May 2007 to boot. I’d really hoped for better from Microsoft to its biggest fans.
If anyone can explain what’s going on and how to get a valid Office 2007 key (or get the key from my kit to work as promised), I’d really appreciate it.
The bottom line for me is that I’d really like to use Office 2007, but heck if I’m going to buy another license if this one does not work. If I can’t get the licensing issue worked out, Open Office will do the job instead. Still, if there’s an avenue for support for this, I’m all ears. Thanks!
