Common Errors and Problems when Activating Windows Vista with KMS Server

Windows Vista Business edition and Windows Vista Enterprise edition can be activated by using a corporate KMS (Key Management Service) server, without contact or communicate with Microsoft. When you try to validate Windows Vista (Business or Enterprise) with either legitimate KMS server or cracked, spoofed, cloned or pirated or illegal KMS server, there are a few common problems and error messages that users may encountered. This article will provide some explanation and resolution or workaround to fix the errors for the following few error codes and descriptions.

Error” 0×80070005 Access is denied: the requested action requires elevated privileges.

Cause: Permissions issue as you don’t have enough privileges to execute the process or command.
Solution: Run as administrator.

If you’re not log on to Windows Vista as administrator user account, or your administrator account has been disabled, try the following steps to enable the administrator account again:

  1. Right click on Computer, then click on Manage, and then click Local Users and Groups, and finally select Users.
  2. Right click on Administrator account, and select Properties.
  3. Uncheck (untick or unselect) the check mark in front of “Account is Disabled”.

There is another cause of the 0×800706ba error. Microsoft Word!! If you type up your doco in MS Word and share it, Word is notorious for automatically replacing dashes with an em dash, a different ascii character which doesn’t work. so if your running a command like:

    slmgr –skms mykmsserver:1688

Make sure you’re not pasting it from doco. Just spent 30 minutes trying to troubleshoot this issue with a coworker, only to find out this was the case.

Ok guys, it’s been a few days I am googling the earth to activate my copy, and thus I am proud to bring you this info :

    - A few of us have had the rpc error because of the “EU” origin of the VISTA DVD. The install. should not contain any “N” Versions (you know, “N” for no thank you, no memory hungry WMP 11 for me). Don’t waste your time trying to activate “EU” Vistas through KMS Servers.

    - You don’t need to power off the firewall to connect to the KMS Host. Allow TCP port 1688 both in your router and in your firewall. No need to sacrifice SO MUCH on security settings. (antivirus was up, too)

    - Another cool tip : You can safely bypass the IP copy/paste step. The slmgr command (poorly documented) support host names, so simply type the name of the KMS Host.

    - I didn’t input a Product Key during install., but my guess is the result would have been the same with the key.

To me, the “Small” KMS Server is a fine evolution, no chinese speaking forums to browse through, no .vmx file to edit in notepad…

Thanks to mydigitallife.info members and thanks to the MS dev. teams :)
These tips are for educational purposes, you should buy a Licence if you plan to use Vista in a pro. environment.

Hi, and thanks for the promising Vista KMS Server.
I too have the RPC server problem.
I checked that the Firewall from real Vista was disabled, and tried the Bridged, Host and Nat .vmx files without success. Please, tell me if there is a workaround to effectively connect Vista to the KMS Server through VMWare.

If you do the -skms command with the ip adress, look carefully if you enter the ip of the vmware vista, I entered the ip adress of the pc where the vmware was running on a couple of times until i got it…

    Easy to make mistake… maybe a hint….

I tried EVERYTHING. I still have the RPC server problem. Despite the fact that I installed Vista using the Serial given (YFKBB…) the -ipk command doesnt work anyway. What do I have to do?
