ComputerAct!ve reviews Apple iPod nano music player and concludes with rating of 5 out of 5 that iPod nano has the same excellent menu navigation as previous iPods, is thinner and with a brighter screen than before. However, users need to have iTunes installed to transfer music, and can’t play downloaded music that’s protected with Windows DRM. Overall, it has he flawless menu system combined with an expansion in storage means that Apple, on the verge of losing its crown at the top of the digital music tree, regains it just in time.

MP3 reviews Apple iPod Nano (2nd generation) and concludes that 2G Nano doesn’t really bring anything new to the table in the fast-advancing world of MP3 players, but the improvements over the original are certainly welcome. This player is sure to be a top choice among a wide range of users, and it’s a stellar option for first-timers. Just make sure you’re aware that the same $249 for an 8GB Nano will get you a larger but video-capable 30GB iPod.

Ars Technica reviews iPod nano (second-generation) and concludes that “some users—like me—actually prefer the shiny plastic look of the old iPod nano to the anodized aluminum of the new one, so we are sad to see it go and will probably soon be combing eBay listings to snatch up the last of the 1G nanos. Aside from that however, the 2nd gen nano has a lot going for it with its various improvements to the screen, the software, the improved battery life, and the less-scratchable surface. The thing even went through the washer and lived to tell the tale! However, there’s just one thing holding us back from completely fawning over the 2G nano: the screen died on the first drop. When it’s all said and done, this is a solid upgrade to the 1G nano. The better battery life, an improved screen, lower price, and colored cases, means that the 2G nano gets a solid 8. We still don’t like Apple charging more for black and not including software with the iPod.”

[...] iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED is a special edition iPod nano which has all the features as with Apple iPod nano, the popular digital music player everywhere in the world. Except that Apple iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED is with a red exterior and has four gigabytes of flash storage space. As with iPod nano 2G (2nd generation), iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED features 1.5-inch color LCD display, up to 24 hours of battery life and seamless iTunes integration. Beside, when you purchase iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED, you’re doing your part in charity too, as Apple will donate $10 to Global Fund and (RED) to fight AIDS in Africa. Apple Matters reviews iPod Nano (PRODUCT) Red and concludes with rating of 8 out of 10 that for those that don’t have a large enough music collection to justify a purchase of the iPod, the Nano is definitely the next best thing. The size and weight are perfect for those who use their iPods in gyms or in sports (such as running or cycling). It’s also worth while noting that the 2G Nanos resemble the iPod Mini much more than the 1G, so if you were disappointed when Apple buried the Mini, then these newly re-mastered Nano’s could be the Christmas purchase/present for you.
