Windows Live Search Reviews

Windows Live Logo
Windows Live Search has officially out of beta and released by Microsoft at Live.com as an anchor product with new core search technology to compete with search leaders Google and Yahoo, beside becoming an important platform of future Microsoft technology. At Live.com, surfers able to search various information on Internet such as web pages, images, news stories, products and questions and answers similar to Yahoo! Answer. However, how’s the easy of use, search quality and search results relevancy of the Live.com?

TG Daily searches several keywords with Live.com Search and concludes after the first look that Live Search is without doubt Microsoft’s most compelling search tool so far. The functionality and ease of use of the core search as well as the image search is dramatically improved over the previous MSN Search. Overall, Live Search may still be a mixed bag today, but it’s good enough grow into a more serious challenge for Google and Yahoo. At this time, it is pure speculation whether Live Search has the potential to become an actual threat for Google or not. But Microsoft has made its first move and the impact of the strategy may become more visible with the introduction of more Live services as well as new software such as Windows Vista and the new Office package.

BusinessWeek gives editor’s review rating of 3 out of 5 and concludes that Windows Live Search may not score originality points but does make for a solid search experience. The good points are that it offers both no-frills and info-rich, customized search, and related results are relevant. While the bad points include looks a lot like Google and video search still in beta.

Fool reviews Windows Live.com Search from the point of view of how the new search engine will affect Microsoft’s bottom line, and concludes that “I don’t see Live.com or adCenter as the catalysts to achieve more than that bronze medal around its neck. That doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with third place at a lucrative feast in a niche where there’s plenty to go around and advertisers are only going to come in harder over the next few years.”

All is safe and happy again my dear friends As we fight against all that is evil with MS and that F’ING Live Search box!!! Here is the remedy to the issue and major KUDOS TO IntelliaAdmin for finding a registry value that removes the search box from IE7 FOREVER!!!
Do the following steps and say hello to a much cleaner browser.
Bring up regedit > Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft
Add the rest of the subkeys (\Internet Explorer\InfoDelivery\Restrictions) and then the DWORD of NoSearchBox set to 1.

Hope this helps and good luck and if any of you play TF2 Come Get Some!!! ^_^

For all sitting on Firefox there is away to fix it.
Just write in about:config in adress field and press enter.

The preference for the start homepage is browser.startup.homepage; the default Google.com-powered start page is displayed as resource:/browserconfig.properties.

Also settings for search engines can be found under browser.search

If your not sure search for about:config firefox for more info about settings. solved it for me, do not completely remeber which things to change right know though..

Microsoft really gave us the best reason ever to go Linux - LiveSearchSh*t!!!! It shows the arrogance and attitude they have - always said Windows was the world’s largest virus - now they have proven me right!

    ThIS LIVE SEARCH THING SUCKS!!

Recently my IE updated itself (it set to automatic update….i didnt think there would be a problem with that), and ever since then ive had so much trouble with my internet. everytime i type an website in the address bar (i.e. http://www.myspace.com), it would take me to the Live Search Website, instead of directly to the website. Although ive figured out how to change the default search provider (from Live Search to a site suck as google), it seems thats theres no possible way to get rid of this mandatory search….everytime i try to go to a website. Its pissing off!!! Also, ever since the IE update, my internet often displays “Page Cannot be Displayed”, although my internet connection if perfectly okay. To goet to a website i have to click “Refresh” multiple times for the website to finally open up. These problems are making me mad and i cant believe thats theres no way to fix it….get rid of it, change it, or something. I dont know how long I can take this……

    Latest update on live search.
I emailed MS support telling them I am unable to access my d-link router because of live search and what do they do? Sent me a link to D-link tech support. So in the email was a supervisors email addy who I could contact if the response I got was not helpful. So I contacted her telling her the issue and she sent me to this page http://support.live.com/eform.aspx?productKey=wlsearch&page=wlsupport_home_options_form_byemail&ct=eformts where I can give more details on my problem. So when I go there and fill out the info, I hit send and what do I get??? Page cannot be displayed.(twice) There is nothing wrong with my internt. (Just as a note I tried it just now without so many details and it worked, so I will let you know what useless response they send back this time. Mitch you can add me to the lineup for taking a shit in the nearest MS store…..

I wrote a letter to MS support regarding the above problem and they suggested I contact my d-link router support. There is NOTHING wrong with my router or my internet connection. Its their crap program that is the problem. If I have to format my computer over this I am getting rid of every MS product I can. I refuse to use someone who wants a dictatorship and likes to shove stuff down our throats. If I wanted this crap I would have asked for it. Makes me wonder if the idiot who answered my letter even read it first. Moron. Anyway, venting over, for now….

Yes live search sucks. I am trying to access my d-link router and every time I put 192.168.1.1 in the google address bar it brings up live search and a bunch of information about routers. I have IE 6.0 so I have no idea how I even got this crap. No removal option in add/remove programs. This is enough to make a person boycott MS all together. I am so pissed!!! Even if I try Firefox it tells me the connection has timed out but my internet is working fine. I am sure this has to do with live search. I have no idea what to do at this point. I even looked through the registry but cant find anything in there relating to live search. Can anyone help?

When are they going to add more Chicktionary games? I’ve played everyone of the games and yet to find more to do. It maybe an excuse to slowdown the point earning process. How can Chicktionary run out of puzzles! Basically, its the only game on the list that I can earn more than 4 points on each time I play. I’ve been waiting for over 24 hours and haven’t heard anything yet. I maybe crazy to try for the Zeno mp3 player thingamagiggy.

umm… why don’t you all just download firefox? its actually alot better than IE in preventing pop-ups and whatnot, and just as compatible. Really, try it and you’ll never go back to IE. Remember competition is good. Microsoft has had a monopoly for too long, so it just cheats us out of our money with crappy products we buy for the sake of compatibility! Open Source Revolution!!! … sorry got a bit carried way.

    Hi World,

If you find a way to remove the Live Search feature, please let me know.

Like it, or hate it, I don’t want to forced to accept it. I want to choose “look and feel.” Alternate Web browsers have some issues issues too, but they generally don’t force a toobar feature on me.

    Cordially,

    Joe

There is NO WAY to get rid of it without dumping Windows altogether. I have it on good authority from a relative who helped develop it - my son, actually. Even over the antitrust suit, this piece of ^&$#% will be the undoing of MS. It is that bad. And what really ticks me off is their arrogance in stuffing it down our throats - and, make us pay for it! - without our permission.

I so despise this new explorer, on basis of having the layout changed, not being able to fix it, and being denied the ability to remove junk that I don’t want or need that if I can’t get this thing fixed by tomorrow I’m going to permanently junk explorer for a user friendly rival.

I’m joining the club who HATES live search. My son runs the MS search engine, and he says there is no way to get rid of it. I am prepared to dump MS altogether if I can’t get rid of this piece of s–t. I don’t know how it got on my computer, either, but I suspect it came with IE 7. I did delete it, but live search prevailed. I hate to give up MS as I like their products - except this one. I suggest a world-wide boycott of MS products until they fix this mess!

This is horrible. The live search will not allow me to get to a web site when it is based on a link, it keeps referring me to live search. Please tell me in an easy to understand way how to disable this disaster or how to go back to the old Internet Explorer. I cannot believe they could not forsee this disaster.

    Please help!

[...] The cracks or the keygenerators are designed by imitating the interface of Windows Live Search. Execute the keygen.exe and simply press on “Search” button and a legitimate working serial number or VLK product key is generated. Once you get the new product key, you can change your existing Office 2007 product key, or use it to convert the evaluation copy of Office 2007 or its programs. [...]

    Yep, it is total crap.

I just installed the upgrade of IE7, and what the hell is this piece of junk.

Microsoft advertice that it makes you able to use more of the screen for surfing, having it less cluttered. Well I happen to like the google toolbar. And if I choose google as my live search provider, I get TWO textboxes to write my queries in.

And there is no obvious way to disable that piece of junk live search textbox.

And what happened to my menu bar? Ohh yay, I found it, I can enable it. But what the hell is it doing BELOW my address bar?

Unlocking the bar and trying to move it above to its normal place yield no results.

How about making a patch to IE7 that leaves you with the option of having a normal view, instead of this crap.

Thanks for the effort in making a better browser, but please help me remove part of this junk thats forced on me.
