Export and Save Word or Excel Documents as Acrobat PDF or XPS Files Directly from Microsoft Office 2007 with Add-in

Microsoft has released a 2007 Microsoft Office add-ins Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS that allow Office users to export or save the Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Access databases and forms, PowerPoint presentations, Visio diagrams and other Office documents into the electronic paper PDF or XPS file formats. The add-ons Microsoft Save as XPS, Microsoft Save as PDF and Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS can be used on eight Microsoft Office 2007 programs namely Microsoft Office Access 2007, Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007, Microsoft Office OneNote 2007, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, Microsoft Office Publisher 2007, Microsoft Office Visio 2007 and Microsoft Office Word 2007.

Last June, due to legal pressure from Adobe, the creator of Acrobat PDF format, Microsoft announced that it would drop the “Save As PDF” and “Save As XPS” features from Micrsoft Office System 2007. Instead, the PDF and XPS files creation feature directly from Office programs will be provided as a seperate free download add-ins for Office 2007. PDF is popular way to post send documents on the Web and delivery of documents between businesses, while XPS (XML Paper Specification) is a Microsoft creation intended to compete with PDF in the electronic document market.

Other than enable saving and exporting directly to a PDF or XPS documents, the add-ins also allows users to send as e-mail attachment in the PDF and XPS formats in a subset of these programs.

The add-ons in three version can be downloaded from Microsoft Office Downloads Center:

Save As PDF
Save as XPS
Save as PDF or XPS

The add-ins is available for users running genuine Microsoft Office products only. WGA validation test and check is required. To download the Save as PDF or XPS add-ins without or bypassing the genuine Windows Genuine Advantage Office validation, check out here, here or here.

I have the same problem as the post below. It was working fine, but now, when you print a scaled page the images do not move or scale with the page, so it has become a useless utility with any doc with an embedded image.

It was working fine, but seems to have started when a work college received a new pc with the pdf add-in already installed in Office 2007 (when I got my pc you had to get the add-in separately). Can someone please help!

I’ve been using Microsofts PDF/XPS converter Add-In for a some time now, and has been very helpfull. Recently,I think after my last major update, it is not working Excel 2007 only. I have pictures on my documents that I save to PDF, and everytime I export to pdf it distorts, enlarges, discolors and moves the pictures around which is very frustrating. On print preview it looks fine but not in the Exported PDF??? PLEASE HELP…PLEASE!!!

[...] Microsoft has little goodies for 2007 Office System suite (all editions) and individual Office programs such as Word 2007, Excel 2007, Access 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Visio 2007, InfoPath 2007, OneNote 2007 and Publisher 2007 with new feature where Office 2007 provides ability to create and make a PDF copy of Office document or publish and convert the Office document into Adobe Acrobat PDF file format. Acrobat PDF format is the popular and widely used format for document sharing and transmitting, and previously, a third party utility such as Adobe Acrobat is needed in order to export or save or print or convert a document or workbook into a PDF format file. The free Save as PDF or Save as XPS add-in or plug-in is available for download from Microsoft. There is also individual Save as PDF and Save as XPS only add-ins or plugins available. Depending on your need, you can download the individual version of Save as PDF only as it makes no sense to download the combo version if one little use, since the XPS (XML Paper Specification) is less popular file format.
