Crack, Remove and Disable Windows Media Player DRM License Acquisition and Music Copy Protection with FairUse4WM
FairUse4WM DRM stripper is a hacker utility that has the ability to crack and strip DRM (Digital Rights Management) copy protection from music and songs files offered by PlaysForSure-commpatible online music stores, music download sites, music subscription sites and record labels that are using Windows Media Player 10 and Windows Media Player 11 encoding protected by Windows Media DRM (WMDRM) version 10 and WMDRM 11. Current, online music stores that using PlaysForSure DRM license protection include NapsterToGo, MSNMusic, Amazon Unbox, Urge, Wal-Mart, Liquid Audio and AOLMusicNow.
When you download and play the Windows Media Audio (WMA) and Windows Media Video (WMV) protected with WMDRM, you’re told a license is required to play the selected content and Windows Media Player will launch WMP Digital Rights Management License Acquisition process to acquire valid license for the media from the DRM store servers. If no license can be found, you won’t be able to listen to the music song or the video.
FairUse4WM (Fair Use for Windows Media) uses a GUI version of drmdbg that supports individualization blackbox component (IBX) version .3930 and some WM11 versions and able to strips DRM headers from secure WMA files. FairUse4WM intends to enable fair-use rights to purchased media so that owners can freely copy to any devices or media. So import of KID/SID pairs is not allowed and, license expiration and rental detection is not supported. You won’t be able to unDRM any without them being licensed to you or without at least a file with active valid license.
FairUse4WM version 1.2 (new version that works around the new IBX version being pushed by Microsoft on new individualizationsfeatures) features DRMv1 support for files you ripped yourself with protection enabled, works with WM9 (individualized), includes a workaround for WM11 beta 2, subdirectory support by taking a directory as the command-line parameter, and WM10 and WM11 support.
To use FairUse4WM, download FairUse4WM from doom9. Just launch the FairUse4WM hack program to extract personally identifiable information (decryption keys) from the Media Player while playing the DRM protected media. Some WM installations have multiple ECC key-pairs where users need to do “Extract Keys” using multiple licensed files. Users may also need to individualize the system. With individualization the licenses information is stored in IndivBox.key. To individualize the system, download any demo drm video from ezdrm.com. Update: FairUse4WM 1.3 Fix-2 with Mirakagi which supports Windows Media Player DRM up to version 11.0.6000.6324 in Windows XP and Vista has been released.

Good for him to stop DRM. We all try to peacefully fight Microsoft by complaining but never helps but now he, Macintosh, and Linux will lead the fight to make sure we get TREATED RIGHT by corporations. Ok
We pay for music. Why can’t we keep what we pay for. It’s not right. If you keep controlling I am switching to Macintosh. That’s right a Mac. I won’t buy Music CD’s either if you keep treating us bad and just whistle to myself.
If you don’t stop your going to turn innocent people into pirates, or people that Boycott that will fight to protect rights.

I have a recently deceased laptop and upon buying the converter cable so that the hard drive could be installed in the desktop I found that everything went smooth and all but there’s this thing….I CAN’T PLAY ANY OF MY AUDIO AND VIDEO FILES ANYMORE!!!! Something about licensing but these were audio/video files that were downloaded freely and have been in all my systems for years (probably a decade for some).
DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW I CAN HACK THROUGH THE WDRM OR WHATEVER THEY WANT TO CALL IT THAT HAS BURGLARIZED ME ?

And just for the record, the files I had accrued through the years were documentaries and confessionals of government officials (the type of stuff that doesn’t make it to the “news” outlets or CD’s or books for that matter. But needless to say I’ve pretty much gained back everything microsoft took; yes, took…see, when you actually THINK about it they took (stole without a gun). If I STARTED with the media in one computer that I had purchased along with that overpriced software (windows) and decide to move the drive to another computer containing yet another overpriced software (windoze) then it ought to be playable (the drive works fine…that’s not what I’m saying….it’s the media they robbed me of the pleasure of KEEPING)….what corporations won’t do to gain CONTROL….and all the dummies say ” duh well tough luck ” LOL until something similar happens to them (or until corporations start doing something more dictatorial … like censoring what we say and do on here….oops, forgot…the government is beating them to that punchline….ahhhh but who OWNS the government? Lobbyists are bribists aren’t they? When money by microsoft is given to a lobbyist to give to a congressman or whomever isn’t that bribery to get their way? and the dummies chorus in “duh so what”…stay tuned for martial law.

Linux, definitely. But Macintosh?!
Apple is a corporation just as much as Microsoft - may I remind you that Apple’s iTunes/iPod is a key player in the whole DRM sphere? Apple is trying very hard to wrest market dominance from Microsoft - and then keep it.
I believe Apple will soon become a force to be reckoned with - despite the bloat and crazy interior, Mac OS X is a superb operating system for the average home user.
But if you think you’re just a little more than the average home user, and aren’t afraid to face a bit of learning, then try Linux. It’s a free operating system that has reached the level of Windows and Mac for which you can get a huge collection of high quality free software - including office applications, image manipulation programs, instant messaging clients, and web servers.
Whereas Mac makes most decisions for you, and Windows often gives strong suggestsions, Linux is all about choice - you can install a Mac-like interface with smooth animations, or a simple one that won’t eat at your processing power.
But that said (and getting back to the topic a bit) - it is definitely difficult to play anything “protected” by DRM on Linux. Partly because it is now illegal to even attempt to crack DRM (at least in the US).
DRM is dreadful: To subvert it all one need do is run a program that “sniffs out” what a DRM-endorsed player is doing, like the program shown here. The end result is DRM does almost nothing to stop file sharing - in fact, the average user, annoyed that she can’t, say, copy her song to another computer, will probably turn to file sharing anyway. DRM punishes those without an internet connection, those whose computers aren’t fast enough to handle the overhead of DRM, and those who are forced to break the law in order to play something. It doesn’t punish those who engage in file sharing. In conclusion it is pointless and harmful, and as consumers we should avoid anything with DRM not because we want to steal music, but because we don’t support a system that punishes people who don’t want to steal music.
And remember that at any time, the rules of DRM can be changed. If we don’t resist DRM, and it becomes the norm, they’re free to restrict it further… e.g. when you transfer it to a music player, it will no longer play on the computer.
Anyway - for a Linux-compatible music player, someone suggested the Cowan iAudio X5, which plays a variety of formats.
To Kenny Hendrick:
If you still have the laptop HD intact (with Windows on it, that is), try getting a virtual machine (such as Bochs: http://bochs.sourceforge.net/ ) and booting your laptop’s Windows in it. With a fair amount of luck (and providing the virtual machine supports this), it’ll boot as usual, and you can then with fingers crossed see if the DRMed files run in it. If they do, try the above technique or others to make them DRM-free permanently.

I purchased SoundTaxi. It does its magic by basically re-recording the files. It uses (in the background, without any intervention by you) Windows Media Player to obtain a license.

I downloaded some music from limewire, and windows media player won’t let me put those songs onto my MP3 player, I get this message “Error: Error performing inpage operation.”

To play your older audio files without the DRM crap that’s been added to Media Player, download the older version at http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm
Or, you can try the XP Codec Pack at http://www.free-codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm; I used it and it allows me to record and play all of my audio files again, as well as play all my DVDs in my DVD player (DRM was interfering with that too), while keeping Windows Media Player 11 installed and active as the default application. As always with these things, YMMV and you should back up anything important … create a restore point, etc., … before you install this stuff.
But it works for me.
