Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Reviews
Microsoft LifeCam is a wired, desktop webcam that delivers High Definition still (1.3 megapixels interpolated) photography, brilliant video (640×480 pixels) and a built-in unidirectional noise-canceling microphone for crystal-clear audio performance from Microsoft. LifeCam has 2 modals that’s VX-3000 and VX-6000 which adds high definition video capabilities, a wide angle lens, a 3x digital zoom, and a high-speed USB connection. Other features of Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 include optimized for and integration with Windows Live Messenger where there is Windows Live Call Button, LifeCam Dashboard on Windows Live Messenger window and ability to One-Touch Blogging with Windows Live Spaces. LifeCam VX-3000 also has automatic face tracking software and universal attachment base to fit itselft on most monitors include LCD flat panel.
ABC News reviews Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 webcam and concludes that the LifeCam VX-3000 is a relatively inexpensive webcam with a good set of features. If not for its lackluster mic and so-so video quality, it would be a great low-cost choice. Just like the company’s high-end VX-6000 but a little less capable, the VX-3000 is really an entry-level camera that packs a few fancy features.
ComputerAct!ve concludes with rating of 3 out of 5 that Microsoft’s LifeCam VX-3000 is easy to use and has a few useful added features, but weak performance means that it’s a fairly average webcam at a reasonably affordable price.

Eu tenho as 3 A VX-3000, a VX-6000 e a NX-3000
Desta digo com toda certeza a melhor e a VX-3000, a VX-6000 foi uma grande e cara decepção, a imagem é ruim e o controle de luminosidade o soft é sofrivel a NX 3000 é muito similar a VX3000 sem controle de foco, mas é rapida e com boa imagem.

I have a VX-6000 and love it, but the Live Call button is VERY annoying, because it’s almost impossible to adjust the camera manually without accidentally pressing it. However, there is a workaround to disable it. It works for the VX-3000, too:
1. Open Windows Explorer in the folder where the camera’s programs were installed. Usually, this will be C:\Program Files\Microsoft LifeCam.
2. In that folder, locate the IcePick.exe file and rename it to something else (e.g., IcePick.ex_ or IcePick.exe.bak).
The button is already disabled at this point, but a third step is necessary, otherwise the driver will reinstall itself (asking for the CD, etc.) when you access the “Properties” window (to adjust brightness, etc.), and it will restore the original IcePick.exe, undoing what you did. To prevent that:
3. Create an empty file (size = 0 bytes) and name it IcePick.exe. To create an empty file, you can, for example, right-click on Windows Explorer’s right pane and create a new text file, then rename it and confirm that you want to change the extension. DON’T OPEN IT, otherwise Windows will try to execute the file and God knows what will happen. The file size MUST BE ZERO.
That’s it, the button is dead.
Also, check the driver version on the CD, especially if you are using Vista. The CD is most likely outdated. Only driver versions 1.3 and later are Vista-compatible. As of this writing, the latest one is 1.4. It’s better to check on Microsoft’s web site if you have the current version.

I just found it off of Microsoft by typing in Driver for Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000. I got a universal driver via a support website that hooked me into it off Microsoft.com. Can’t believe Google and Microsoft are at such odds that you can’t find something as basic as a driver.
It’s 119MB so it’s downloading while I peck this out. make sure you have bandwidth.

Yes, you could use a free-standing mic with the webcam but you’d be better of trying to get the built-in micrphone to work first. You ought to contact Microsoft customer services first.
