Google Desktop is a desktop search application that gives you easy access to various information on your computer such as email, files, music, photos, chats, Gmail, web pages that you’ve viewed, and more. Google Desktop also gathers information from the web and displays in Sidebar, a desktop feature that shows you your new email, weather, stock information, personalized news, RSS/Atom feeds, and more. With version 4, Google Gadgets further extends the functionalities and features of Google Desktop with various plug-ins.
PC Magazine reviewed Google Desktop 4 and gave the utility rating of 4 out of 5 (Very Good) and concluded that a continuous stream of new gadgets means there’s always something interesting and simple to add to your Google Desktop. Several of version 3’s rough edges have been smoothed. Many more tips, and they’re more obviously available. Everybody can find something valuable on the Google Desktop, whether it’s simple amusement, handy tools, or gee-whiz applications that might inspire you to become a programmer.
