AOL Internet Phone Service is an enhanced Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service from AOL which combine advanced tools, competitive pricing and ease of use features to allow users to take full advantage of the revolution n Internet voice technology. New AOL customers have 6 months promotional rate of $29.99 per month ($39.99 thereafter) for unlimited Local and Long Distance calling within the US and Canada plus unlimited access to the AOL service over a broadband connection. Existing customers have choice of plans which range between $13.99 to $29.99 during three-month promotion ($18.99 to $34.99 thereafter).
AOL Internet Phone Service has all the standard calling features on the phone which include Call Waiting, Caller ID, Voicemail, and Quick Codes including Basic Call Forwarding (*72/*73), Send Calls to Voicemail (*78/*79), and Cancel Call Waiting (*70). On top of that, AOL Call Alert, AOLbyPhone, AOL Voicemail and AOL Parental Controls are integrated to allow users to manage and retrieve voice and e-mail messages from any touchtone phone or Internet connected PC, and to divert the calls to your home phone, touchtone phone or computer, as well as Call Blocking. Beside, the VoIP service has a call management feature called “Dashboard” which allows users to easily access and manage their account settings, call handling and call forwarding preferences, call logs of incoming and outgoing calls, as well as access contact lists with click-to-dial functionality and their address book.
USA Today tried out and reviewed AOL Internet Phone VoIP Service and concluded that the service worth the rating of 3 out of 4. They like the service because setup was simple, call quality was fine, lets you view call logs and manage call preferences inside a Dashboard panel. However, during testing, ran into conflict with firewall and Caller ID wasn’t fully working, and service requires AOL membership.
“I wouldn’t rush to join AOL just to exploit AOL’s phone service. If you’re a member, though, AOL VoIP is worth checking out.”
