Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Support in Windows Vista and Longhorn Server

Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) is the name for a system developed by Intel that is designed to replace the aging BIOS system used by personal computers. EFI will give the instruction for power-on self-test (POST) process, bootstrapping and loading the operating system, and providing an interface between the operating system and the physical hardware. Currently EFI specification is released from industry alliance Unified EFI Forum (UEFI) that includes Microsoft, AMD and HP, hence it’s also called UEFI.
