I have a similar problem with my hp dvd840i. Ho un problema simile con il mio cv dvd840i. It no longer reads or burns cds but dvd + dvd dl no problem. Essa non è più legge o brucia cd ma dvd + dvd dl nessun problema. No new firmware or solution to find anywhere. Non ci sono nuovi firmware o una soluzione per trovare ovunque.

had a good run out of mine for about 6mths of use just went to use it and it will no longer recognise cd-r but dvd's no prob. ha una buona esecuzione di miniera per circa 6mths di utilizzare solo è andato a usarlo e non sarà più riconoscere cd dvd-r, ma non è problema. That unit HP DVD 840E is a stinking junk,it will never read brand new blank DVDs on my IMB with Win2000 even after you try 50 brand new ones of any type ,you can never burn anything not even a single file of the hard drive,I would like to see HP go bankrupt,DONT buy this junk DVD writer!!!!!!
