Opt Out of Windows Live Mail and Get Back to MSN Hotmail Interface

Windows Live Mail
Windows Live Mail is an major interface and security update to Microsoft’s MSN Hotmail web mail interface by adopting the popular Web 2.0 technologies. Windows Live Mail has a similar user interface with Microsoft Outlook, which is organized into 3 columns, plus a big vertical banner on the right. For those on unsupported browser, there are improved Classic Hotmail version of Windows Live Mail.

If for whatever reasons (such as lack of Firefox support which only been supported from M6 release, or pissed with too much ads space, or simply don’t want to be a beta users) you want to ‘uninstall’ or leave the Windows Live Mail Beta email interface, you can get back to the old MSN Hotmail interface.

To opt out of Windows Live Mail Beta, login to your Windows Live Mail account, click on the Options in the upper right corner of the Windows Live Mail Beta interface. Once you’re in the Options page, click on “Beta opt-out” to stop using Mail Beta.

Or you can opt for Classic Hotmail View by clicking on “Choose inbox layout: Windows Live Mail Experience or Classic Hotmail View”, and then select (check on) “Always use Classic Hotmail View, which includes check boxes and does not have a reading pane. If you use a screen reader, Classic Hotmail View will work better for you.”, and click on “Save”. To go back to Windows Live Mail interface, just check on the “(Recommended) Use Windows Live Mail Experience, which has drag and drop, right click, and the reading pane to quickly view emails. Using Internet Explorer version 6.0 and higher will give you the best experience.” option and click “Save” again.

Alternatively, go to Windows Live Mail homepage, and click on “Leave this beta”.

Update: Windows Live Mail has been renamed Windows Live Hotmail and officially launched. The opt out option is gone, but you can still switch back to MSN Hotmail.

Oh, I’ve have solved my own problem. Firstly, I uninstalled windows Live Messenger, because I have the habit of opening my hotmail through Windows Live Messenger. So i uninstalled it and re-installed an older version of Messenger (version 7.0) its still available for download.. I closed Messenger and then opened up Live Hotmail, and it worked.

Sometimes i can open Windows Live to read my email but more often I can’t . This is really worse than my classic hotmail. i have to resort to automatic forwarding emails to another email account, that’s the only way because I can revert to classic……unles sthere is a way…please please tell me how.

Like most people , can’t get back to classic version.I felt more acqainted and muchg at ease with the classic version. I have tried to do this through “Options” but couldn’t as the “Switch to” command does not exisit. Are you forcing users to use the new version ????

My Hotmail is frozen. I cannot delete or enter my mail so that I cannot switch back to Classic Hotmail as I do wish. Roberta

As usual M$ spent more time and money on obstacles for competitor instead of giving customer what they want certainly wont give any thought on quality product test nor remedy actions. Again by no surprise Live webmail without doing any testing, cuz customers are
doing it free since DOS as M$ QC testers.
Ponzi scheme at best display. Switch it to
other browsers? Their sales will quick to
coerce websites to permit only M$/IE.

Why don’t you guys wise up and leave the options to us? You’re “Live” program sucks big time!! Once and for all, tell us in plain English how to switch back to the Classic version. I didn’t ask you to switch me. Now I can’t do half the things I did on the classic version. Didn’t anyone teach you about customer service in Geek School? Give the customer what they want, not what you think they need or what you want. I’m sure Bill Gates would be proud of you!!

I cant take this anymore. There is NO option for this! There is no pull down menu to select to revert back to MSN mail.

Why are we being forced to use this? All I want is my email which I cannot access.

Where are these so called options, go to windows live mail and click on leave this beta?? THERE IS NO SUCH THING!

People, please ignore this article. It is outdated. Your only choice at the moment is si Windows Live Hotmail full or classic. Classic allows plain text emails.
