Samsung Q1 Ultra-Mobile PC (Origami) Review by BostonHerald

Samsung Q1 is one of the first Ultra-Mobile Personal Computer UMPC (previousply codenamed Origami) to launced in the market. Samsung Q1 intends to deliver high performance mobile computing with multimedia and the desire for a bold personal statement by combing the best features from PDA, MP3 and PMP player, Tablet PC and storage device.
Features of Samsung Q1 UMPC include running on Intel Celeron M processor, DDRII 400 SODIMM memory socket, 7″ WVGA (800 x 480) LCD, and plenty of connectivity options including 10/100 Ethernet, Mini card WLAN (802.11 b/g), Bluetooth and more. The mobile device weighs 779 gram with dimension of 227.5 x 139.5 x 24.5~26.5 mm.
BostonHerald reviewed Samsung Q1 and concluded that the UMPC is not a bad concept. It’s easy to carry around, and apart from the annoyances, the touch screen is an intuitive interface that’s much nicer than the touch pads of regular laptops.
But integration and battery life need to improve before the UMPC is going to find its market. Microsoft has a track record as a tenacious improver, and its hardware partners will no doubt figure this one out.

[...] Samsung Q1 is an Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) with a 7″ WGA LCD screen which is the first produced and marketed ultra portable mobile computer under Microsofts Oragami project. Samsung Q1 UMPC is a small form factor tablet PC which runs on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 operating system. Samsung Q is powered by 900Mhz Intel Celeron processor, features 40 GB hard drive, Bluetooth connection, and weighs 0.78kg plus DMB support. Other than BostonHerald, more reviewers has reviewed Samsung Q1. TabletPCReviewSpot reviews Samsung Q1 and concludes that the Samsung Q1 is a first of the very first generation of the Ultra Mobile PC devices. That said, we can surely expect improvements in future models. The Q1 is a perfect device for specific users who need to stay connected and productive on the go. Our advice is simply this: Do not expect the Q1 to be a “replacement” for a real Tablet PC or notebook computer. The Q1 and UMPC devices in general are an excellent alternative to users who wish to have much more functionality than they can get from a PDA, but to avoid carrying an entire Tablet PC or notebook computer everywhere. If this describes “you”, the Q1 is certainly worth your consideration. [...]
